Chuck Todd: Americans Who Don't Pay Income Tax Fund Gov't More than Rich by Playing Lottery, Slots
Breitbart's Big Journalism ^ | August 26, 2014 | Tony Lee

(VIDEO-AT-LINK)

Chuck Todd, the new host of NBC's Meet The Press, suggested that Americans who do not pay income tax fund public education more than the rich by buying lottery tickets and going to casinos.

While interviewing Ben Carson on CSPAN's After Words, which aired on Sunday, Todd said that Americans who don't pay federal income tax go to casinos or buy lottery tickets and are "spending more money funding our schools, whether it's Detroit or other places." Todd said that though "they are not writing a check to the federal government," poorer Americans "are contributing arguably more money to education [by buying lottery tickets or at casinos] than the rich."

One can argue how lucrative casinos in urban areas are or how much lottery tickets actually fund public education, but nobody is forced to play Powerball, Mega Millions, or go to casinos. Americans, by law, must pay taxes. That's a big difference...

bump!

exactly

The lotto is most like the Hunger Games. I spend a buck here and there but I know the chances are slim.

Effin stoopit.

So take direct taxation out of the equation and deal strictly with taxation on dollars spent.

I still blow more money than most and it’s taxed for whatever rate that is.

Just a season of snowboarding will cost me $20k-$30k. Gas, hotels, food, top shelf booze, airfare, women...

That’s before I take vacations, which cost $4-$10k

Then there is my clothing. You don’t want to know what I spend a year.

Then there are the dinners and while I love Mexican food I love places like Daniels, Veritas, Red-O, Ago, Gary Danko, Boulevard, Koi L.A., Coi San Francisco, etc.

The Hell the poor pay more!

Cars? 5, brand new. You think that maintenance bill is frickin cheap? Not on new cars and not on Mercedes or BMW. ..

Went to Carmel last week. Had a hamburger and fries while taking in the ocean breeze, atop a cliff and one mile from the Bixby bridge.

Ahhhh! I love that place. Bill for my afternoon of self indulgence? $186. Experience? Uhhhh...priceless and shared a glass if wine with a beautiful woman I met.

The poor pay more?

You are a fatuous idiot.

It doesn’t effin compute and makes no sense.

Whatever the point, F Chuckin Todd, was trying to make, arghhhhh. FU!

20%?

80% go to management fees.

It’s something like that....

Sounds about right.

And yet they pretend it helps the economy.

Reminds me of cities that pay a million bucks for a study to support the building of a stadium. Knowing exactly what the study is going to say: What the payers want it to say.

I only spend $1 on the lottery each week if it is double digit winnings.

I know people who blow hundreds each month. Lunatics.

Schwarzenegger outsourced our lottery because the management fees were usurious.

I think lotto is stupid but, I play a buck twice a week.

Never check the tkts.

I figure if I win the store will put up a sign “Bingo! Winna Winnuh! Chicken Dinnuh!”

I’ve watched the first 15 minutes of his MSNBC show for several years and have discovered he’s not overly bright. A former Democratic pollster, I think, turned journalista. He has always said dumb things like this.

David Gregory's wife was executive VP for Fannie Mae.

Todd's wife currently works in direct mailing for Democrats and progressives.

Oh no...no conflict there.

I guess Todd thinks we can do away with income tax and still fund the behemoth welfare state? F Chuck is an idiot.

While I’m sure there is some money spent on lottery tickets that SHOULD be spent on food or children, no one can convince me some welfare rat has an extra $15K he spends each year at a casino or lotto. Total bullshit

The downward spiral of ratings for NBC’s “Meet the Press” puzzles analysts.

speechless... it is written as if the producers should be thanking the moochers for the schools. I thought I’d look up my local district’s budget revenue... 1% funded by lottery... 9% TOTAL for all state and federal sources of revenue combined. 91% of the district revenue is from local sources (property tax, parcel tax, other local taxes, & foundation $). The education foundation is contributing more to the district than the state... twice as much as the federal revenues. Compare that to Oakland Unified...1.3% lottery, only 25% of funding derived from local sources... 75% from state & federal sources. Oakland Unified spends 13% more per student than my local district, yet scores considerably lower on the state’s standardized tests. Could the quality of education be influenced by something other than funding? /sarc

A few years ago, a ne’er-do-well of somewhat advanced years, in a small forestry town on the Island, won a few million in a lottery. At that time, he said he planed to spend it all as quickly as humanly possible. Then, he set out to make good on his word. He set up a private trailer court, for himself and his his closest drinking buddies (because the one he lived in wouldn’t allow that much partying). He went through the money quickly, and was interviewed about his experiences last year. He said (paraphrasing): “I spent almost all the money on booze, cars, parties, women, and more booze. The rest I spent foolishly.” A lot of people around here enjoyed his escapades vicariously.

And, like Nancy Pelosi’s unemployment benefits, these welfare dollars generate a magical 30% dividend by putting more into the economy and public coffers than they take out in the first place.

Can not understand why people would want to make themselves look like idiots by making asinine comments on national TV like this.

Given the choice, I would rather blow the thousands of dollars a year I currently pay in income tax by playing the slot machines in Atlantic City while sipping free whiskey sodas instead of sitting up nights, tyring to figure out if I am allowed to offset the amount in field 117a from the pro-rated net inverse amount in field 125b.
