My observations?
WWII and Korean W Vets were shown deserved appreciation and respect. Vietnam Vets, not so much. In fact as a Vet in college, I rarely brought up the fact that I served. The USAF Veteran's cap that I wear today would have been ridiculed back in the 70s.
I feel especially bad for the Viet Vets who returned with wounds (physically and emotionally). I think that a warmer welcome home at the time would have been more than a little therapeutic.
I remember seeing him doing that live with the veterans up on stage. Very moving.

I keep telling people that there is no conflict between Capitalism and communism. There are millions of rich communists who made their millions by way of Capitalism.
The conflict is between communism and Constitutional Republicanism but some people are so self-delusional that they simply cannot be convinced. My self-described, genius.....stepson was one of them.
My WWII-era dad always stressed the importance of valuing everyone who served. You did your part, and deserve our thanks.

I was born in 1948 Bawstin to a liberal mindset/family, public schooled and pretty vacuous when I enlisted at 17 in '65.
They were looking for hamburger but I was still 17 after AIT so I went to Korea.

Democrats always look better on paper because they are more generous with other people’s money, and love creating new departments and layers of bureaucracy.
I’m not saying Republicans are better - and there’s no doubt vets deserve a lot better from us than they get - I’m just not sure you can measure it by which party passes the most spending bills or creates the most bureaucracy.
There’s got to be a better solution than the Democrat playbook of an ever expanding bureaucracy.
I also suspect that as Vietnam was a Soviet client, the fall of the Soviet Union, suddenly brought back their fears of the ChiComs.
