Paul plans D.C. detour to vote against debt increase

Rep. Ron Paul will drop off the campaign trail in South Carolina on Wednesday and fly back to Washington to cast a vote against raising the debt ceiling, his campaign said Tuesday. ...

Mr. Obama said late last month the federal government was once again close to breaching the legal limit on how much it can borrow, and he requested Congress raise the ceiling again. Opponents would need to pass a resolution disapproving of the increase and have it signed into law, or else override a presidential veto, to bloc the increase — which is highly unlikely.

But returning to Washington to take the vote highlights one of Mr. Paul's strengths in the race: He is one of only two current officeholders still in the race — the other is Texas Gov. Rick Perry — and the only one whose job allows him to actually go head-to-head with President Obama. ...

The vote is a no-brainer for Mr. Paul, now in his 12th term, who has made a career out of voting against spending bills and debt increases.

Newt, as a member of C0ngress voted for increases, Rick as a member of the Senate voted for increases, the only candidate who has never voted for an increase in the debt limit is Congressman Ron Paul.

Why are so many so afraid that the man who has never voted to fund abortion, never done and abortion, never voted for a debt ceiling increase, never stopped yelling about the corrupt federal reserve, has consistently fought against presidents being able to go to war without a vote from Congress, etc, being the Republican nominee?

There is no other member of Congress who has supported and benefitted from pork spending and earmarks than L. Ron Paul.

Because he sounds like he has warped perceptions of foreign policy. I’d take his domestic policy suggestions any day over the rest, and if whoever is our next president does not institute his domestic policies, we will never be able to afford any sort of effective foreign policy.

This vote is largely symbolic since the GOP controlled house has already given Obama the debt ceiling increase. But it does serve to illustrate the differences between Paul and the other GOP candidates.

I think most conservaties agree with those things but they don’t feel comfortable with his “Blame Amerian First” foreign policy stance.

He sees the murder of over 3,000 people on 9/11 as an act of terrorism and not an act of war. Our country was clearly attacked by radical Islamist, We can either fight or surrender, Paul chose surrender and the white flag. Most conservatives find that disgusting.

Texas Rep. Ron Paul, who’s made his crusade to slash federal spending the cornerstone of his GOP presidential run, has been habitually flying first class at taxpayer expense.

Paul has jetted first class on at least 31 round-trip flights and 12 one-way flights since May 2009 to travel between Washington and his Texas district, according to an Associated Press review of congressional office expenses.

Another four round-trip tickets and two one-way tickets were eligible for upgrades to first class. The records did not reveal if the upgrade was made.

Paul’s first-class flights on Continental Airlines cost taxpayers nearly $52,000 since 2009 — or about $27,000 more than flying coach.
