The Elephants Got A Twisted Gut- Call the...NRA?

An Ought Six Point of View

Let's start with this choice confession from one of the Republican party anointed candidates for the 2008 Presidential elections. "In 1994 we became the majority in both houses of Congress in order to change government. Instead, government changed us. We began to value power over principle...We lost our way...We had begun to believe that it's our money! Honest to God, we believe it's our money, not theirs [taxpayers]." Senator John McCain, Readers Digest, Can the Maverick Go Mainstream, March 2007.

For good measure, let's follow up with the thoughts of a defender of the Second Amendment on some of the other offerings made available to the voters by both the Republicans and the Democrats. "In order to defend our rights, we have to know who is threatening them. However, there are too many threats to address all of them. The following is a list of just ten of the threats to our Ohio gun rights in 2007... #8) Rudy Guiliani, John McCain, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama are currently the main contenders in the 2008 presidential election. All four of them are anti-gun and will have a negative affect on our gun rights at EVERY level" Alex Payton, Buckeye Firearms Association, Ten Threats To Our Ohio Gun Rights in 2007, March 26, 2007.

What I have learned from the above, is twofold. One, fiscal irresponsibility and gun control have been added to the list of conservative principles in the Republican party and are now considered presidential qualities. Second, there definitely is a place for America's Republican leadership and the American "free press" when it comes to choosing and reporting on the "top" Republican contenders for the US Presidency. That place being out of the public's eye, and under close adult supervision. They should then be furnished with a coloring book and eight crayons, maximum.

As evidence of this, consider the first two Republican presidential debates. Just like little kids, the party and press arranged the setting and candidates to suit their whims. Even though they had picked the winner and runner-ups, they were ever so thoughtful in allowing ten contenders to play in the game. After all mommy and daddy voter would be watching and they had heard them say many times that the party and press must be "fair and balanced". But then something went totally wrong for the party and press. Instead of mommy and daddy voter choosing the games favorites, Rudy or Johnny, they picked one of the fill-ins, Ronnie Paul, as the winner. "No, mommy, no daddy, YOU picked the wrong one. Now let's play again. Ronnie Paul you won the last time so this time you can't play!"

Well, mommy and daddy voter thought differently, and insisted that if they were going to watch the game again, Ronnie Paul must be allowed to play. With arms crossed, angry eyed, and bottom lips puffed out far enough for a bald eagle to perch, the party and press reluctantly agreed. Well, once again, mommy and daddy voter picked Ronnie Paul as a winner or close favorite. Now, the party and press are in denial and revolt. So how will their tantrum end? Will mommy and daddy voter insist that "no candidate should be left behind", or let the spoiled party and press kick Ronnie Paul out of future debates? It seems at this point, they're going to have to let him continue. But boy oh boy, does it blister them! After Ron Paul's performance and high marks in the polls, the sound from party and press sounded like a couple hundred porkers who just realized they're in line to become link sausage and pork chops.

For those of you are not acquainted with Ron Paul, he's easy to figure out. He's a physician, he's served in the Congress for 20 years, he believes the United States Constitution is a binding contract, and it is easy to follow and understand. So, when it comes to the second amendment, for example, he hasn't voted for any legislation restricting your right to self defense. He's not an internationalist who thinks we should become blood brothers with commies and dictators who come to the Nations Capitol with fleets of big rigs to haul off pallet loads of your money. Nor is he interested in giving foreign invaders any kind of rights. Needless to say, in a nation of kaleidoscopic politicians, Ron Paul's perfectly adjusted scope, sighted in on answers to America's domestic and foreign policies is not well received.

And, so it seems the Party elephant has a twisted gut from the decades it's been rolling around in the filth and dirt of foreign expeditions and interventions. It was bound to happen. George Washington warned the populace of his time about the consequences of foreign entanglements. In his farewell address, certainly regarded as a major part of his great legacy, Washington wrote about the danger of these misguided foreign escapades. So is it any wonder Congressman Paul, who desires to follow George Washington's wisdom, is a threat to those republicans who invoke the founding fathers names when it can garner votes, but truly relish the delicacies offered by globalism?

So where does this leave you and me as members of the various gun organizations across the country who are witnessing the true spirit of the Republican party towards one of their own? Well, if we're not afraid to exercise our trigger finger on the key pad of our telephone, I'd say in the best shape I've ever seen. Consider this, for as long as I can remember, the following Ron Paul quote has been on the home page of Gun Owners of America: "The only no-compromise gun lobby in Washington". I'm sure this endorsement by Ron Paul has aided the GOA in it's efforts to increase membership as well as raised more than a few bucks. For all you NRA members, Ron Paul's quote should not be jealously disregarded. Rather, it should be an inspiration to make the necessary adjustments to the NRA's board, making the NRA worthy of a similar compliment from Congressman Paul. So, during the term of this debate season, whenever the Republican party and the lap dog press attack Ron Paul make the following calls. First, to your local Republican leadership. Explain to them that they, along with any Republican senator or congressman from your home state, will be held accountable if they don't demand that Ron Paul's right and ability to stand among the debating candidates be held sacred. Then call your Republican representatives offices and deliver the same message to their staff. Finally, call the NRA, GOA, or whichever gun rights organization you have chosen to represent you, and demand they defend Ron Paul's right to debate, and to be treated as an equal among the candidates. Now, that's not a hard thing to do, is it?

Positively identifying the political and media enemies among us is definitely in a clear line of sight. But let's not forget to examine the biggest problem facing us if we are determined to have a fair and free election. Returning to the top 10 list of problems facing the Ohio gun owner as perceived by Alex Payton from the Buckeye Firearms Association is the perfect example. The number one problem as Payton sees it is as follows: "The apathetic...gun owner...cannot be counted on to take any action that is needed...in fact, this person does more damage than the rest of the list combined." Obviously, this the category of gun owners the status quo politicians, press, and gun grabbing groups are counting on. So let's all get the lead out, (metaphorically speaking) and demonstrate our support for Ron Paul. For truly he is a man who has shown total devotion and dedication to serving our country and, at the least, deserves an equal chance to demonstrate his qualifications meriting American's votes for President of the United States.

Ron Paul is right, honest and straightforward about just about everything.

As such he can never be elected president.

I believe he said we caused 911 by bombing Iraq during the Clinton admin. That in my book, makes him a nut.

Yes, I have little doubt he will join the Honor Roll of unelected Presidents who will be proven correct with the 20/20 hindsight of history.

Best regards,

The Goldwater Doctrine:

"I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom.

My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution, or that have failed in their purpose, or that impose on the people an unwarranted financial burden.

I will not attempt to discover whether legislation is 'needed' before I have first determined whether it is constitutionally permissible.

And if I should later be attacked for neglecting my constituents' interests, I shall reply that I was informed their main interest is liberty and that in that cause I am doing the very best I can."

I love how he’s a stick in so many peoples’ eyes around here.

Yes sir, you can pretty much tell which way the wind is blowing when they create a back-water-forum-where-no-one-goes to dump posts that do not meet the test of Free Republic's unwritten rules of appropriate Conservatism.

So who is the official designated replacement Bushbot candidate?

Even Rudy G is too liberal for the executive suite, so it has to be someone like Duncan Hunter?

Isn’t this the nut that made the stupid remarks about 9/11?

Dr. Paul may be many things but he is far from a nut and he very rarely makes remarks that can be characterized as stupid.

If you take the time to investigate his extensive position papers as they have been issued over the years you will find he has a deep and affirmative grasp of both the Constitution and the Founders Original Intent.

I celebrate his contributions to the American Political Dialogue and so should you.

Ron Paul, who cannot get even 1% in any poll, is the choice of the “Mommy and Daddy voters”? Do you all really believe if you just scream louder and longer reality will magically twist to fit your feelings?

HERE is a prime example of why Ron Paul will go NO where. To win elections you have to attract people to vote for your guy. Screaming hate at everyone who doesn’t agree 100% with your mindless adoration of your political demagogue repels far more people then it attracts.

Going to be so funny watching you all squeal when the primary's come along and your boy doesn’t even finish in the top 5. But doubtlessly you all are all ready working on your conspiracy nut rationalizations as to why he will get his butt kicked.

Thank you for your contribution to this thread and your service to our country.

Winston Churchill summarized it best:

If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a small chance of survival.

There may even be a worse case: you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.

Barry Goldwater Jr. should set up a website and republish his father's work.

A Presidential Library in Exile sort of project.
