I am a huge MacArthur fan. I just got his study bible

I think that the church has redefined repentance to an acknowlegement or a verbal assent .

I listen to a national religious program sometimes..they take calls..The Host will say .."would you like to ask Jesus into your life" (as an answer to a "problem)

The caller will say "yes"

Then she leads the caller in a prayer that goes like this

Father I know I have made some poor choices (or mistakes) and I ask your forgivness for them.Jesus I ask you into my heart now I give you my life"

The the host says "there you are now a member of Gods family"

Ann if we do not see how Holy God is and How sinful we are we can never repent..It is a "cheap" salvation they preach ...because what value has something that has no cost? If we read the OT we see what happens when man is in the presence of God..they cry out and weep and fall on their face..

I think we judge ourselves by the actions of other men and in comparison to them we do not look too bad (*grin* ) But when we look to the holy perfection of God THAT is another thing.

I was listening to this preacher on the radio one day, and that name Macarthur rings a bell. I remember he was saying that the typical church consists of "A mild-mannered man, speaking to other mild-mannered men, telling them to be even more mild." I laughed out loud in the car, and that saying keeps coming back to me.
