Prayer Request
Posted on 11/09/2002 7:08:58 AM PST by Litany
I am a near-distraught mother asking for prayers for my son. He is a senior in highschool...he wants to decline a scholarship and tremendous opportunity for college to travel 3000 mi. (Calif.) for a girl. I humbly ask for prayers of protection for him from the Evil One and for the Gifts of the Holy Spirit to fill him. Thank you, In Jesus' Name, Litany

Oh, Litany! This is so sad. Your heart must be breaking.
I will keep your intentions in my prayers.
To: Litany
I have said a few prayers for you. Here's something I've done in similar situations: give him a blessed (by a priest you can trust to give a valid blessing) Miraculous Medal and ask him to do just this one thing for you: wear this medal at all times. Whatever else he does, if he just does that one thing, then he will have a chance to have grace working in his life, and he will eventually come around. Your prayers for him will be more efficacious, and every time that he's in a near occasion of sin, the medal will be there to remind his conscience.
BTW, avoiding college might be Divine Providence. It's quite likely that college could have destroyed whatever faith he still has, maybe to be never restored.

The Serenity Prayer got me through situations like this.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
The courage to change the things I can;
And the wisdom to know the difference.
Amen.

Someone just sent me this in an email:
YOUR CROSS
Whatever your cross
Whatever your pain
There will always be sunshine
After the rain
Perhaps you may stumble
Perhaps even fall
But God's always there
To help you through it all
To: Litany
A young man was at the end of his rope, seeing no way out, he dropped to his knees in prayer.
"Lord, I can't go on," he said. "I have too heavy a cross to bear."
The Lord replied, "My son, if you can't bear its weight, just place your cross inside this room.
Then, open that other door and pick out any cross you wish."
The man was filled with relief and said, "Thank you Lord," and he did as he was told.
Upon entering the other room, he saw many crosses; some so large the tops were not visible. Then, he spotted a tiny cross leaning against a far wall.
"I'd like that one, Lord," he whispered. The Lord replied, "My son, that is the cross you just brought in."
When life's problems seem overwhelming, it helps to look around and see what other people are coping with. You may consider yourself far more fortunate than you imagined.

Thank you...that's beautiful...and truly that belief is what gets me through times like this. Also, thanks for the Serenity Prayer.

Dearest Litany,
During our family Rosary we will pray for you and and for your son. I will also pray for the girl.
I'm just an old-fashioned Irish peasant woman. I'd sprinkle holy water everywhere in the house and especially in his bedroom and on his bed and in his bathroom (and on his car or bike or motorcycle!). I would cook everything with blessed salt, and I'd put blessed salt in all the salt shakers. I'd start a novena to Our Lady Help of Christians, and I'd get three Miraculous Medals blessed. I'd give him and the girl each a Miraculous Medal on a chain and ask them both to wear them daily for you. I'd put the third Miraculous Medal somewhere where he spends time, under his bed in his bedroom, under the floormat in his car...you've got to be creative with this one.
My sister Mary Rose would drop Miraculous Medals on the walk leading up to her house, and invariably the child in trouble would pick the medal up and keep it. Our Lady works overtime in our family!!!
Whatever you do, Litany, don't lose hope. Take heart. We'll be praying and the saints will be praying in paradise.
Pinging others to pray for Litany's son.

I'd also put a statue of St. Michael the Archangel in his bedroom.
