I got interested in Mormonism because of Lady Lawyer beating the ell out of me on another thread about the abduction in SLC......what layers? what death defying? I was assured they were Christian by Mormons and assued they were NOT Christian by others. Do Mormons believe that Jesus is their Saviour? and HE is one part of the TRINITY? If so, that would make them Christian.

Someone did say they will become a god when they die, but that seemed like they meant to say Angel.

Whether someone is or is not a Christian or not obviously defends on your definition of the term. By many definitions Mormons and JWs do not qualify, and by others Catholics do not.

Personally, I suspect the definition that counts is that of Jesus. Lacking direct revelation from him to me on the subject, I give all those who claim to be Christians the benefit of the doubt. If Jesus disagrees with their claim, we'll all find out in due course.

According to the material I've seen, the Mormons don't even realize the positions of their church fathers.

The official teaching of the church is that Jesus and Lucifer are/were spirit brothers, equal in stature, before Lucifer got ticked and left heaven. And, I do understand that they believe they will become gods when they die, with their very own planet, and a spirit-spouse to populate it with spirit-children. (Please - no flames. I'm just paraphrasing to make it quick...)

And YES - although I do not align with the Mormons, I DO think the Naval Officer was a jerk, if the story related is accurate.

Do Mormons believe that Jesus is their Saviour?

Yes.

... and HE is one part of the TRINITY?

No, because we believe the "Trinity" is an erroneous construct from the Middle Ages. However, we believe that Jesus Christ is Jehovah of the Old Testament, and that He is one member of the GODHEAD, which includes God the Father, Christ Himself and the Holy Spirit.

If so, that would make them Christian.

In the end, labels mean nothing except as they inform us, or pander to our ignorance. In the end God Himself judges, and the judgements of man are irrelevant.

Neither of the ideas expressed here - Someone did say they will become a god when they die, but that seemed like they meant to say Angel. - are correct.

(In orthodox Christianity, anyway........)
