On one thread (I think it was the thread on the NYT being about to out that cardinal; if not, it was running at the same time) someone posted a link to the Roman Catholic Faithful website that had this bit. A lot of people might not have clicked the link, since the poster posted several paragraphs, but not this one. It was apparently an older posting on the RCF site, because it said that he "will become" the head of the USCCB.
I remember posting the link. Here is an excerpt about Bishop Gregory.
"Other Bernardin creations are Bishop Wilton Gregory of Belleville, a native of Chicago, slated to be the next president of the NCCB; and Archbishop John Vlazny, former seminary rector in Chicago and former bishop of Winona."

I concur with the RCF folks that Bernardin and his boys are at the root of this problem. It is true that he still has some of his "boys" in key positons. Maybe the the reason I seem to be in the minority of Catholic Freepers who feel something positive is going to come out of this conference is I don't believe their influence is what is once was.
