Your Bishop sounds like a fine man (although your parish does sound less than "orthodox"???) who trusted and expected the best from his priests. In some of these cases, it takes and will take the wisdom of Solomon to do what is right and good.

It is pretty hard to conceive of evil behavior and evil thought in someone else if you don't have that particular behavior in yourself. That state of mind added to a person who believes in forgiveness and redemption and has to deal with the homosexually acting out priests, I imagine is a huge trial itself.

It is heartening to know your Bishop took an interest and loved and had compassion for the victim he met with. The Bishops are human too, and like the rest of us, struggle to do the right thing every single day.

I thought about this a little more last night, I think what has happened with some bishops is not a cover-up but a sometimes mistaken belief in the goodness of man. I think they ended up being enablers.

It is kind of like living with an alcoholic. They say they're going to quit drinking and you want to believe so you choose to believe it and then it happens again ad infinitum
