Can you or someone explain to me
how Arafat ever came to be called a Palestinian?

My understanding is that he began his career
as an Egyptian businessman.
Did he ever even live in Palestine?

Waiting to cross 5th Avenue today, one could hear the bullhorn chants as the Israeli day parade marched up to 79 th street in Manhattan. Cute stuff to be sure, but what does it say about the "peace" these folks want? A quick check of the Bible indicates the existence of a Palestine (let's not get into a discussion about its borders), have the Israelis decided that the reference in the Bible doesn't exist, never did and never will?

1. I'm not sure which (mis)tranlation you are using. There is no reference to a Palestine in the Hebrew Scriptures. Philistin has no relationship to Palestine except by name. The Philistines were a Greek sea-faring people who dissapeared around 800 BCE). I don't know about Christian scriptures. It is possible that some Christian writers towed the Roman line in that empires attempt to de-Judify Judea.

2. If you were informed of the subject matter, you would know that these chants had nothing to do with the Israelis. The marchers today were American Jews, for the most part. Also, the people chanting were a distinct minority. There were also a few lunatics chanting "Peace Now". That doesn't make it Israeli policy.
The chant you hate was used by two groups: Betar/Tagar and the Kahanists. While I sympathise with them, they are a distinct minority.

The fact is that there is an Arab state, the Kingdom of Jordan, composed of 3/4 of the British Mandate of Palestine. Today, the debate is over the creation of a Second PAlestinian-Arab country, to be ethnically cleansed of Jews, and to be located in Judea and Samaria.

PS. I looked at your other posts. You wan to t arm the Terrorists and arrest Sharon. At least you don't pretend to be objective.

Well maybe Israel shouldn't be the Jewish state, anymore than America should be the Christian state. We let anyone come in here, regardless of their religion or ethnicity. It's worked pretty well so far, as long as people don't abuse the privilege. Whose to say it wouldn't work in Israel? You might say that would be a tragedy for there to be no Jewish state. Well, America isn't a Christian state and no one calls that a tragedy. In fact a lot of people would say it's one of our strengths.

1. There are plenty of Christian states, but only one Jewish state. You are being intolerant and down right racist if you think that everyone should have their country but Jews, or you are a one-worlder who has just shown his hatred of all actual peoples.

2. A Bin-national state would be the end of Israel. The Muslims would overwhelm the Jews and Israel would either end up like Lebanon or, as the Muslims continuously pronounnce, the Jews would be expelled in blood.

I'm trying to figure out if you are a rascist, ignorant, or a post-nationalist idealogue.

There is a difference between self-criticism and vitriol by outsiders.
If you think Jews are not self-critical about Israel or any other issue, you have not spent any time in a group of actual Jews.
Given your bio, I am not suprised.

I'm sorry if we don't take to kindly the criticism of an Arabist-British ex-pat who chooses to live under Communist rule and prodly displays the Chicom flag.

If the nations of the world were interested in stability (and some justice for the Palestinians), the West bank should be ceded to Jordan and the Gaza strip to Egypt.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. You have described the exact situation that existed before the Arabs invaded Israel in 1967. The only 'stability' that might result from this that it's proposers might desire is to put all the Jews into nice, stable, cemeteries.

Now, the point is that most people acknowledge that there will ultimately be a "Palestinian" state if there is to be peace in the region.

I believe that Dick Armey, who supports transfer of the Palestinian populaztion, is not one of the 'most people' you are referring to. In any case, we are talking about what is true, and what is right, two matters connected only by coincidence to popular opinion.

You believe in a "God" that assigns land to "chosen" people?

Of course I do, I am a Christian.

Gaza to Egypt --should turned completely. Agreed.
The West bank is more troublesome because of the aquafier.

A treaty that protects the western recharge zone would have to have a couple of western countries as guarantees against a regime change in Jordan (UN ? Nahh).
And even if Israel did accept it, why would King Abullah of Jordan want to bring in 2.1 million radicals with a declining GDP ?

That's some major arm twisting (with a big foreign aid carrot) by the US.

I don't think anyone is going to want to do this.
But next year, after the Iraqi game, the sums may be different ...

So transfer of the Palestinian population is the right thing to do? They should leave their homes, the lives they created and go somewhere else or be refugees forever. That Dick Armey suggested that is even more sad. Makes one wonder...

even our government claims is a key objective to settling the mid-east, i.e. a "Palestinian" state.

This is a little white lie the state department is using to buy time while the administration is preparing to smite the strongest of the Islamist terrorists, after which we will let the Israelis deal with the weakest of the Islamist terrorists in the way House leader Dick Armey suggested last week.

You are correct he's an Egyptian ,born in Cario. He was exiled from Egypt and a number of other Arab states. Not sure but I think Saudi and I know Jordan. If you notice when Israel talks about exile that they have a problem finding any country that will take him.

He has always been a hot potatoe not only for Israel but for any moderate arab state, if there is such a thing. He's always had a core of violent radical thugs that follow him from state to state. He was on his last leg, I believe in the Arab Emirates, when our country dug him up and gave him new life by bringing him in to be a spokesman for the palestinians.

He had a name that the people recognised and since he was a thug our government thought that he could be controled by money ala Castro. As usual it backfired. You give a broke, weak thug money and recognition and all you get is a rich powerful thug. So rolled in the west bank in his pick up trucks with about 80 of his henchmen.

The first few weeks he sat up his organisation, ala Al Capone, by killing any of the local leaders i.e mayors and such that in any way questioned his orders or authority. He has since placed his people in all key positions in all the towns and villages. None of those eighty with the exception of one ,I think, is from the area of palestine. He has killed probably as many arabs as has Israel, but they did it for defense and he did it for controland power. Those millions of dollars that pour in each from The U.S. and Europe have been going in his Swiss bank accounts.

His main home is a villa , I think in Spain where his wife and children are. Believe me if he is run out you won't see him in one of the arab states. He's right where they want him. Theu use him to keep the eyes of their people on him and off what they do to their people. BTW most of the palestianian leaders that he eliminated where hung and left hanging some of them on meat hooks as a message for the others to fall in line.

This is the infastucture that Sharon is trying to destroy. Their are veryy few palestinians in his organizations except fot the few that are scared or corrupted. Don't know why I rave on this subject. I'm retired on disablity and at times it is very painful for me to even touch a key board.

But I have trouble sleeping sometimes because of the pain and medication so I have to do something. I also have had a mild form of dyslexia since birth that certain medications seem to make worse and I tend to transpose letters and numbers. I re read my posts several times but still miss some errors and at times it takes me a very long time to write these. So if it takes me while to respond, I aks you for your patience.

I just get so fustrated when our country has been so close to solving the biggest part of the problems of this area at least a half a dozen times, like they are right now and at the last minute they are duped by arab leaders and stop Israel and then spend our dollars to rebuild the smae problems again. Then the Israeli citizens die and the palestians die and on it goes.

After seeing their reaction to the attack on the World Trade Center, I would much prefer it if they all were dead. I am willing to settle for inflicting them on somebody else, preferably the Syrians. They deserve each other.

Just what we need, another fetid, squalid, corrupt and dictatorial Arab regime in the Middle East. Islam and it's sharia law are the antithesis of democratic government, and Arab culture is a culture of shame, denial, brutality and lies.

Frankly I do not think that anyone living in a part of what used to be Yugoslavia is in any position to lecture an elected official in a civilized country as to how they should behave or talk.

Oh, and I am not from a civilized country, is that it? Because my country was once part of Yugoslavia, I have no right to critisize? Hmm, your country once had slavery, and took land from the indians, I say that you also don't have any right to critisize others. Brilliant logic I must say. What on earth gives you the right to be superior and to tell others if they can critisize political leaders or not?

No, it is NOT mentioned in the King James.

Who told you that, and what verse did they tell you it was mentioned in??

We are Americans. All other people on earth are alive only because of our sufferance.
