They've had them in the grocery stores for ages, but of the packaged variety, not fresh. The store bakeries make them too, but they are all wrong -- more like a dinner roll in the shape of a bagel, if you can imagine such a thing. But in the last several years we've had a number of specialty bagel shops spring up that make and serve the real thing.
The store bakery bagels here are pretty good, though they do tend to be more puffy than chewy. The authentic bagel bakery in Pittsburgh used to have a bunch of satellite shops around the area, but they mysteriously failed. Those were really good, in a way that the chain bagel shops aren't.
We got some from a "Paneras" shop the other day and they were way too fancy. They have chocolate chip and 5 grain varieties, but they don't have the basics like egg and onion.

How is the Santorum thing playing in PA?
Well, I wasn't here, but it doesn't seem to be a big deal. The liberal paper will try to make it so, but they hate him anyway cause he's pro-life.
In the round-up of local politicians none seemed to think it was a killer. Even the dem governor pretty much said "you have to understand he's a deeply religious man."
We're not big fans of sodomy around here.

Have you got Rotel up there?
