You can download music right off the web. Or you can get a share based utility like the napster clone Kazaa. Burning cds requires a cd burner of course and most come with the necessary software. I prefer Adobe EZ cd creator; but, Nero is another good utility if you don't like what comes with the drive.

Can you burn straight from the web to a cd and forget the downloading?

I think you mean Adaptec (now Roxio) Easy CD Creator, which was my top choice until Roxio goofed it up to the max (version 5 is awful; it hosed my Windows 2000 system and is incapable of completely uninstalling itself!).

Nero 4 -- which came with my new burner -- is wonderful. I've done music, data, MP3 and Video CDs of all sorts.

Credit is also due the Verbatim drive; it's much, MUCH better than the Polaroid it replaced. I've also had great results with HP burners. They just don't go on sale at OfficeMax like the Verbatims do.
