Well, you are south of the Mason-Dixon line. Well south. The first year my older sister lived near DC she was amused cause they got half an inch of snow and they closed all the businesses down and sent everyone home. Some idiot slid into her car. This for half an inch of snow!
I'll take the cold and snow over the ice and sleet anyday. There are advantages to being a bit farther north. We've been below freezing for a week, which means you don't have to deal with a daily runoff and re-freeze.

Same here. We won't see the north side of 30 degrees until at least the weekend. Slightly colder than normal, but nothing extreme. I remember one December we had a long stretch with highs around zero and lows -15 to -20. Other years its in the 40s and 50s.
The unusual thing this November and December so far has been the dryness. We had a little snow early November, and next to nothing since then. No rain either.
