The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

SO... IF you stray... have fun! Live it up, because you ain't gonna die till after you come home?

Not to be rude but this is a stupid, flippant remark.

Well, the correct admonition is ... Don't stray!

For, if you do, ... you will surely suffer, ... as did the prodigal son before he returned home. Can you imagine having to eat swill ?

First of all, congrats on #52800. ;o)

al_c, I agree with Becky, I also sense something different in you then in the others, but when you talk to other Catholics in your Church, do you sense that same difference, that same Spirit of God in them?

In other words, have you other Catholic friends that you can have spiritual and meaningful conversations with at your local Church?

We have met people in our church, then after services, gone out to have lunch with them. We talk about our spiritual journey and our relationship with God, and our studyies etc., do Catholics do this also?

Yes, yes, and yes! Praise God!!! :o)

It is a scary thought from your prespective. But I have peace AND gratitude about my salvation. It is a done deal, that is why I do my best to please Him.

As I have said, we cannot judge, only God knew their hearts. But they are dead. From scripture we know God has a great deal of patience, maybe He took them out finally to keep them from sinning to the point of losing salvation. He will not let us lose salvation even if it means taking us out completely. Maybe they were never saved. We can not know for sure about others. Only God can.

Scary that we can choose the alternative? Sure! Peaceful that we instead choose God? Very comforting indeed.

My point was that these two (from what I've read about them) did indeed give up on their sinful ways (drugs, alcohol abuse, etc) and then, in the prime of their careers, left this world. That's all I was getting at. I'm not judging their final outcome ... that's not my job.

I must write this post number down, it's the first and only Yes or No answer that I've ever received from a Catholic. Lol

Sorry. Still talking about choice. Knowing that I could have chosen to continue on the path that I was on and thinking about where that path was leading me ... that's what I was saying was scary.

Is that more clear?

But see you made your choice at the time of salvation. You chose to follow Christ, God's promise is to never leave or forsake those
who choose His Son, and God always keeps His promise. If you view this as "loosing" your free will, well I will gladly lose mine because I know my nature. I am thankful that salvation is a one time experience.

Now we're back to square one. In a previous post, I told you about my upbringing and how I was already a faithful follower. It wasn't until my college years that I fell away. Now you say that I made my choice at the time of salvation. Are you saying that I was never really saved in the first place? If so, I wholeheartedly disagree.

Nope. Just a simple way to point out the silliness of the pure OSAS position. This line seems to imply "sure, you may stray, but you are guaranteed to come back". Some OSAS types think you'll just never stray... which has it's own problems.

It is a done deal, that is why I do my best to please Him.

Not to be rude, but I do my best to please Him because of who He is. He is worthy of honor and glory and praise and worship apart from saving my soul. It is the love of a child for the Father. "Gratitude" is not an adequate motivation. If God has to do something for you to earn your love?

"We love Him because He first loved us." -1 John 4:19
