Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |
Scripture please.
I don't believe any law should make you but I would hope that morally you would continue to support and love him. He's a victim too.
Scripture please.
I asked you what you meant first. It is standard ecclesiology which recognizes the accumulated people whom Jesus has saved as the Bride of Christ. He is the Groom.

According to verse 1, all are of the kingdom of heaven. If 5 didn't get in the parable would have been about the kingdom of heaven and hell.
Who's standard ecclesiology?

No offense intended but you would be a hurt, but loving and forgiving Dad. You might be ashamed of her but you wouldn't disown her. You don't think our God is that kind of good Father too?

Are you serious? This is grossly misread. Grossly. Tell me you're kidding.
The kingdom of Heaven is like the entire story, not just the first noun one finds in the tale. Seriously!

I was responding to the "nutty" post that Christ wasn't around when the Scripture was written. What did you think I missed?
First, there is no forgiveness without repentence.
Second, a loving father respects his children's wishes. Love is not tolerance of any and all wrongdoing. Love, sometimes, is tough.
God will not drag anyone, kicking and screaming, into heaven against their will.

In a snit. He was in the desert for three weeks preparing to go to Iraq. He came back and found that the war was over. Wanted to go "kick some butt". Go figure lol. I guess they have to pump them up though to get them in a fighting mood.
Scripture please.
Ephesians 5:
22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. 25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
The Bride of Christ is the Church.
The point is, as always, that people may find solace in believing that they do not have to persevere, but the true ones will indeed persevere. To count yourself among the elect is above our pay grade.
Then how do you interpret these scriptures ...5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
And II Corinthians 11:2 , and Revelation 19:7

Quite simply. That those of us who have the Son, have life.
The point is to look at what "these things" means. By all means, if one reads and puts into play all of the things that were written, then one can be reasonably sure of having the Son and hence Christ.
But to simply consider that he wrote just this one or two sentences and that that is all we need to know "to know" that we have eternal life, is to miss the point.
We need to examine the totality of what is written, not just this excerpt.
And, as always, the very same class of people are addressed, "you that believe." What does that mean? Does that mean those that profess a belief once, or those that show that their beleif is genuine by persevering?
