The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Tell me, its getting that way here on workers comp ins, you almost can't buy it anywere else.

You can't do with out insurance, I hate insurance co's and tell them so every time I deal with them.

But you can stack the deck in your favor if you know what you're required to have and need to protect yourself, you don't just blindly accept the propaganda that they put out.

1. If you're single don't buy insurance

2. Never buy life insurance on children.

3. As you get older, carry less life insurance.

4. Buy term insurance.

And thats just life insurance, car insurance is a rip off too if ya buy what ya don't need, and many folks don't know, so they let their commission agent tell them and get screwed every time. It works that way with all types of insurance, ya have to dig a bit to find out just what ya need.

The thing is that here they just raise our taxes to cover, so they have no accountability and do what they want.

They'd also have to go after the teachers and administrators personally. Or maybe their PENSION FUND! That would get their attention.

Right. Its better to be the bookie. What do we name our insurance company?

I would rather open a whore house with ya than open an insurance co, at least our customers would be getting something for their money. :)

It suggests that the problem is not necessarily tied to
celibacy. It also suggests that there was a lot of piling on. Personally I am angry at the bishops because their standards seem no higher than those of the public schools. After all, the vocation of a priest is to be a saint. Having been a teachers' union rep for more than 10 years, I am only too aware that this is a very complicated mess. Yes, lots of teachers betray their trust; Yes, lots of students falsely accuse their teachers. Administrators generally want to take the easy way out, and care little about justice. But why should they? The public is totally unaware that public school administration is a form of appointive politics. Superintendents and principals are "pols" and they will act like any other pol when trouble comes. A few will deal with it; most will punt.

I thought this was about us getting our hands on their money! ;o)

I hate insurance companies, too. They're in business to collect premiums, not to pay claims. But if you're gonna gamble, its better to be the one taking the bets than the one making the bets.

Yes, but the alternative is even worse. At least the profit motive is rational, unlike any gov't operation.

Buy term insurance.

And invest the savings elsewhere, I presume?

No doubt, but the press treats them as anomalies, as they did the priest cases for a long while. Don't know what it would take to make them pay attention to what is a national problem. My personal opinion is that 5% of teachers are the paragons that the public thinks is the norm and 5% are the bums that the public think is the norm. Yes, I know that the last sentence doesn't make sense.

If you really think Demon tfort's idolatrous Mary worshippings are analogous to your book about recent Steelers success, "You really do not get it.

"Others may explain it to you."

My monthly insurance bill personal and buss is around $900 a month. At 10% for 15 years thats 1.6 mil I could have at retirement. I work on cutting it down every chance I get. I have collected one time on a homeowners insurance in the last 20 years, $800 bucks when the washer overflowed, they raised my prem, and droped me 12 months later when they got back their $800 bucks. Hate is too small a word.

No, it was said By Catholics around 350 ad. But I understand that you, Buck and Chloe can't quite shake all of that tradition. :-)

Now you're getting it! :)

If you would set down and redesign you're whole insurance program, life, cars, homeowners, health, you would be ammased at how much you really don't need and how much you can save and have to invest.

A good book to read on this is More Wealth Without Risk by Charles J Givens, he goes over in great detail insurance plans and scams, it will save you tons of money that you say you don't have to invest, give it a read, make the changes, see how much money you have saved, take that money come talk to me and we can start an investment club (all 2 of us..LOL) with the money, I take the same amount you save and invest it too along with you, and we can see how we do, what do ya think?

Hey angelo, ya want to start a investment club with Dave and me?

Answer the question. Did he or did he not say that all gambling for money is wrong?

(DouglasKC) #51337 I think there's no question that gambling for money is a sin. It's really just a way to indulge in the sins of lust and greed.

#51590 I'm not making the case that gambling in and of itself is wrong...I'm making the case that gambling for monetary gain is wrong whether you can afford to lose it or not.

Your constant harrangue ignores the fact Doug explicitly exempted insurance proceeds from his definition of gambling. Yet you continue to persist. Why?

As in your sizzling analysis of my "misreading" of Jim's bigotry, you were obviously reading an "all of" where it was not written.

I don't think I'll be doing anything quite like that. If I did free up money, I would probably put it in my 401k. Which comes out before I get my paycheck.

<1>Doug: I think there's no question that gambling for money is a sin.

Reggie: Your constant harrangue ignores the fact Doug explicitly exempted insurance proceeds from his definition of gambling.

He did no such thing. He never modified his definition.

The fact that he does not consider insurance "gambling with money" is the key. His definition never changed, and you and he are both ignoring this fact. I am using his definition that he put forth.

Now, I have had several others here acknowledge that insurance is indeed gambling with money. So Doug needs to change his definition.

Not call me a liar for using it.
