I, too, was once under the impression that all Baptists got baptised frequently. Not every week, but maybe once a year.

Don't let them trick you. Most baptists do this daily, but it is mandatory at least once a week before the sun sets on Saturday, (whether you need it or not).

Scripture, like all signs, will be read in accorance with the faith that one brings to it. Luther pounded the table, but Zwingli would not see what Luther saw.

If I had a nickel for everytime you mentioned Zwingli and Luther we could start penance for indulgences again.

Ah, Steven, you want to interpret for me? This Biblical? :') No offense Mr. XeniaSt but I don't want to go from the pan to the fire :')

I haven't really been following this conversation. Provide me with a little more context or refer me to these posts and I might be able to comment.

Can I assume, then, you are another vote for the John the Baptist is Elijah reincarnated camp?

"Behold, I will send you Eli'jah the prophet before the great and terrible day of the LORD comes. (Malachi 4:5)

I suppose you could read this as prophesying a spiritual or virtual sending of Elijah, but that doesn't seem to be the plain meaning of the passage.

BTW, belief in reincarnation is not in conflict with Judaism (this belief is held by certain Jewish mystical traditions). Some hold that it occurs routinely, while others believe that it only occurs in unusual circumstances.

In any case, if God chooses to have a person be reincarnated, then he will be reincarnated, despite what the author of Hebrews says on the subject. Consider the physical reincarnation of Elijah an exception to the rule -- along the lines of the whole Mary being sinless thing.

Can, I bring my friend, "Jesus" with me?

He's already over here. ;o)

Anyway, you know He isn't going to give you any peace until you do, don't you?

If Jesus is God, and I believe in God, then don't I already believe in Jesus?

I don't know any more than you guys reading here. It seems to be a mutation and viral. Which means it's difficult to kill but it eventually dies on it's own. We seem to have a weaker strain here for some reason. We need a vaccine like for flu which can be a big problem too. Every year we give flu shots to our elderly, and pneumonia shots every 5 years , so I guess this will be next. I'm not so sure this hasn't already been around though. Remember those people in NE Texas this year that died of the "flu". A couple of months ago I was very sick. It hit me hard. I was fine and then achy and fever and the next thing I knew I was congested in my chest. It was a rough week. The same thing happened to my husband and my son and his two boys the next week. We all went on antibiotics immediately but I had never experienced getting so sick so fast and going directly to the lungs. Maybe just the flu but who knows? I think the main thing right now is for people to get early treatment if they get sick instead of waiting to see if they are going to get better.

Frankly, I find the silence of Protestants on this point somewhat surprising. All I would like to know is if they agree with Havoc.

I ain't no Protestant, I don't agree with Havoc on this, John the Baptist was like Elijah, not Elijah.

We strive not to get personal and call each other names in here. I know you've only been in here since April 7th but so far you've called me a dunce, arrogant and ignorant. Quite frankly I'm surprised nobody has called you on it. Even the other catholics on thread. It disappoints me.

I'll call him on it.

Steven is neither arrogant nor ignorant. :-)

Why not? They started the whole business that you are engaged in. They, not you, have the patent on private interpretation of the Bible. Zwingli claimed to have been a reformer before Luther, and to owe nothing to the Saxon. I think he was right.

Did your children talk as soon as they were born, and started telling lies? Did you capture it on tape? Or don't you have an answer?

This is going to sound harsh and it's going to come out wrong, but babies first and foremost are totally and completely selfsish. Their wants and needs come totally before anything else in their world. It might be said that they're totally immeresed in themselves which of course is the exact opposite of Godliness. Not that it's their fault, it's what sin did to the world. It's a great physical survival tool, but doesn't do anything spiritually.

There's a messianic pastor in this area that encourages multiple baptisms. If you feel like sin in your life is getting in the way of your relationship with God he encourages another baptism. I'm not sure where I stand on this. Haven't given it a whole lot of thought.

Our church practices foot washing on Passover. Part of it's symbology is of a mini-baptism, to wash away the sin we've trodden in the last year.

John 13:10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash [his] feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.

John 13 is a great chapter for teaching about spiritual uncleanliness and humble service...
