Ad-Hoc Religion Forum Committee Discussion - Thread 3
3/27/02 | angelo

Posted on 03/27/2002 10:38:26 AM PST by malakhi

I've reviewed the critiques and suggestions from Thread 2, have incorporated those I could, and have come up with the following Topic list. One point that was questioned by a number of people were the names of the Denominational Topics categories. I have tried to stay with names that are in common use, and/or are preferred by members of those groups. If you suggested a change here and I did not put it in place, that is probably why.

What I would like to do is to have all interested parties vote a straight up or down on the topics as they stand. If over half of the voters oppose the present list, then we'll reopen it for further changes. If the majority is in favor of the present list, then this is what we'll go with. Keep in mind that additions to the list are always possible down the road.

I will be offline from sunset tonight until Saturday night for the first two days of Passover and then for Shabbat. That will give everyone a chance to weigh in and vote. I'll tally the votes Saturday night, and let Jim Robinson know the results.

Thanks for your participation and the many great suggestions!

Fine; well, then I guess you'll be seeing how your "Nobody really understands the teachings of the RCC except people who agree with it!" act works when the audience isn't stacked. Maybe if you pretend hard enough that the RCC's stance that salvation is partly won by human works isn't a matter of repeated and undeniable record, someone will be cowed by it.

Because you already know, it won't be me.

Your unwillingness to research and learn the truth about the Catholic Church is very sad indeed.

For any soul who wishes to understand the authentic teaching of the Catholic Church, please avail yourself of the Catechism of the Catholic Church -- the final edition of which is widely available in bookstores and online.

Right. Because Is that what you're asking your invisible audience to believe?

Those who wish to know what the Church actually teaches will find the information they seek in the Catechism of Catholic Church.

The understanding of a particular sacramental must begin with understanding the Church's teaching on sacramentals in general, and that teaching can be found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Then to look at the brown scapular in particular, learn of the Carmelite Order and St. Simon Stock. (There is also the parallel development in the Eastern Orthodox Churches with the ikon of the Theotokos holding her mantle of protection.) The advances of the Saracens in particular gave Christians everywhere the fear that Islam would bring an end to Christianity and the independence of Christian nations. The brown scapular held with it the promise that the blessed Mother of Jesus would not forget her Carmelite children who were genuinely her children because they were one with her Son through Holy Baptism and the sacramental life. To learn more about St. Simon Stock and the Brown Scapular click here.

Hebrews 12:14 -- Strive for peace with all men, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. (RSV)

RnMomof7, your use of "storm troopers" as a description of Catholic freepers unfortunately reveals the depths of Catholic bashing to which you are willing to sink.

Your use of a Nazi term with reference to Catholic freepers is unacceptable and reprehensible.

Isn't it rather obvious that to these people, even questioning the views of what is, in their opinion "the one true church", is enough to be labeled abuse, because to them it is to be accepted without question. In the end Tradition overides anything else to them.

There is no humor in calling people "storm troopers". As a child survivor of the Shoah, I am outraged at your use of the term in application to the good Catholics on this forum.

No discussion please seems to be the motto.

Their idea of a "discussion" is for them to cut and paste from some RC apologist website as though that was the absolute settlement beyond question, regardless of contradictory beliefs and practices rampant among their own members and from other RC documents. IOW, whatever the latest pronouncement says, must be what it has always been, end of discussion.

I too have seen posts that would best be thread topics because of their length. So many (not all) are unable to formulate a cogent thoughtful defense of their doctrine...so pages of paste and copy that no one will ever read substitute for a "response" pathethic!

Your use of such inflammatory language as "storm troopers" is what is pathetic.
