Roman law dictated the deed be done (which matches histories of the region at the time showing how they were done around Jeruselem) I'm not entirely convinced that the fellow put in the tomb was dead. And even if he was there's no form of proof that he rose up, could just have had his body stolen by nut jobs

I'm not being argumentative, however why would the disciples spend the rest of their lives being imprisoned, tortured and eventually martyred if all they witnessed was a badly beaten and certainly sickly looking man who survived a crucifiction? Or why would these men give up their lives preaching that Christ rose from the dead if they indeed stole the body? Coming from a Jewish background they would know that they have no hope in this life or the life to come, with no riches and having to give up everything they knew. The martydom of the disciples is a well substantiated historical fact.

I don't think most of the disciples were in on the fix, I'm not even sure all of the prophets were in on it (Judas clearly wasn't, which is why Jesus had to tell him that all was taken care of). And something clearly went wrong (I'm guessing the spear wound eventually proved fatal). According to Jesus he was going to be back during the prophets lifetime.

As for the sacrifices the believers went through, if that proves a religion's veracity then we'd all better convert to Scientology. Scientologist go through a lot, though most of the really nasty stuff they deal with comes from their BS "church". True believers make sacrifices, that's what they do, if it wasn't for true believers making sacrifices we wouldn't have a nation.
