The following was originally written and published February 19 by Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò on X after news broke that the USCCB was suing the Trump administration.
(LifeSiteNews) — For years, the USCCB, had always been most careful to keep the utmost silence in regard to Democrat administrations, even when matters of Faith and Morality have been at stake. But lo and behold, now it even goes so far as to challenge President Trump’s executive decrees, accentuating the already polemical tones with which Bergoglio has cried out against “mass deportation.”
The Bergoglian bishops have one consistent motivation: money and power. They were silent before because they were sponsored by the government on the condition that they pander to the woke Left, and they are shouting now because Trump has cut them off and unveils their intrigues. This is typical of mercenaries, “who do not care about the sheep” (Jn. 10:13).
If the USCCB truly is not concerned about getting government funds and cares only about charitable works, it will have no objection if the President orders a forsensic audit to find out how the funding it has received has been spent. At that point – we can be certain! – what we have seen so far will seem like negligible trifles compared to what will emerge.
The USCCB is a body totally subservient to the deep church, both in intra-ecclesial relations and in diplomatic and institutional relations with the government. Those in charge of it – encouraged by Bergoglio – are dragging the American Church into a confrontation from which the USCCB will emerge miserably defeated. Who knows whether other bishops will distance themselves from McCarrick’s heirs, or whether they will prefer to sink with them. The faithful expect clear answers.

Folks don’t like having “their” money messed with.
The USCCB is just begging to be DOGED. They are going to be sorry they put themselves on the radar.
They not only need to lose the cash, they need to go to prison for human/child trafficking.
I learned how to be transparent in my dealings -from not only proper upbringing in family and neighborhood but in public and in documents- from the Dominican nuns
They would call the behavior cdl V depicts here as outrageous but worse from church hierarchy
“They not only need to lose the cash, they need to go to prison for human/child trafficking.”
This!
they couldn’t live high on the hog if funds to increase their folds with government money for illegal alien invaders is removed.
Eek. Archbishop not Cdl
And how much of the money was sent to Rome and beyond???
As rich as the Catholic church is, the USCCB has NO need to steal our tax monies.
NONE AT ALL.
I thought Catholic Charity came from voluntary contributions by its members.
Why is the Catholic Church asking for grants of money from the government (non voluntary contributions) from taxpayer funds (non voluntary)?
Why is our Federal government spending tax dollars on non government responsibilities?
Is money the reason that Catholic Bishops do not speak out about the evils and sins of our society?
Catholic Charities is supposed to be acting as a government contractor, doing services that the government is paying them to do. (Setting aside for the moment the question of whether government ought to be paying them or anyone to do those services.)
They are also supposed to be a non-profit, meaning that, whatever money they have left over, after defraying the costs of providing those services, stays with them to provide similar services, and isn't paid out as "profit" to "shareholders" (e.g., the USCCB).
In general, government shouldn't be giving the church, or any organization tightly affiliated with the church, money -- even as payment for services. (I could see making an exception to help with the preservation of historic buildings or sites, but that's it.)
If Catholic laypeople want to found an organization to provide social services, and if the government wants to hire them as a contractor, fine ... but the church's involvement should be limited to correcting them on issues of doctrine and fidelity to Catholic teaching. (NB: Historically, the USCCB hasn't even exercised due diligence to keep Catholic Charities on the doctrinal straight-and-narrow!)
Neither should the money flow in the other direction, from the church to the government.
