Jack Hibbs, John MacArthur Comment on ‘Jesus Is Lord’ Incident at Harris Rally; Evangelicals for Harris Critiques ‘False Narrative’

After two Christian pro-life college students claimed that Vice President Kamala Harris mocked them at a rally for calling out “Christ is King” and “Jesus is Lord,” pastors including Jack Hibbs and John MacArthur are citing the incident to suggest that Harris is an anti-Christian. Others, however, such as the group Evangelicals for Harris, dispute this view of events.

Jack Hibbs, founding pastor of Calvary Chapel Chino Hills in Chino, California, referenced the rally incident in a sermon on Sunday, Oct. 20, and appeared to directly challenge Evangelicals for Harris.

“Evangelicals for Harris. Evangelicals for Harris,” said Hibbs, gesturing with his fist. “What are you going to do with that one? She said if Jesus Christ is Lord, you got to go to the other party. You don’t believe it? Look it up on YouTube. Well, you better hurry up, by the way, before they erase it.”

‘Jesus Is Lord’—Christians Take Different Views of Harris Rally Incident

At a rally at the University of Wisconsin in La Crosse Friday, Oct. 17, Vice President Kamala Harris appeared to react to Grant Beth and his friend, Luke Polaske—who called out the name of Jesus while she was speaking—by telling them they were at the “wrong rally.” During her speech, the vice president mentioned abortion and criticized former President Donald Trump for choosing U.S. Supreme Court justices who would overturn Roe v. Wade, adding “and they did as he intended.”

Video footage from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel shows that Harris paused after that comment and then said, “Oh, you guys are at the wrong rally,” after which the crowd cheered. It is difficult to hear anything in that video during Harris’ pause besides people’s voices in the background. Harris then waved and smiled, adding, “No, I think you meant to go to the smaller [rally] down the street.”

At least two videos that captured the moment from within the audience recorded the voice of someone in the crowd yelling, “Jesus is Lord!” Right after that comment, Harris can be heard saying, “Oh, you guys are at the wrong rally.” It is not certain from the footage whether Harris was responding to the words about Jesus or to something else.

Some have suggested Harris was reacting to another heckler or that she could not hear what Beth and Polaske said but was simply reacting to being heckled. Polaske and Beth appeared on Fox News after the rally and said that Harris was speaking directly to them and that they were antagonized as they were compelled to leave the event.

ChurchLeaders reached out to Harris for comment regarding what she was reacting to at the rally in La Crosse but has not heard back. An evaluation of the incident by Snopes did not reach a conclusion about what precisely happened. Snopes also reported not hearing back from the Harris-Walz campaign after seeking clarification about the incident.

In a sermon titled “When Christians Fail To Vote,” Pastor Jack Hibbs outlined a number of problems he sees with Christians choosing not to vote, a decision he said was a sin.

At one point in the sermon, Hibbs rhetorically asked why the Democratic platform is opposed to the Constitution and to God. He then mentioned the “Jesus is Lord” incident at Harris’ rally. “Kamala Harris—did you see what she said the other day?” Hibbs asked as people in the congregation responded that they had.

“She was speaking at a rally, and somebody shouted in the rally…‘Jesus is Lord!’” said Hibbs, adding that Harris then told the person who shouted that, “You’re in the wrong rally.” The congregation reacted to those words with dismay.

“‘You need to go down the street where there’s fewer people,’ she said,” said the pastor. “Kamala Harris said, ‘If you want Jesus Christ as Lord, you need to go to the other party.’ Wow!”

ChurchLeaders has reached out to Hibbs for comment and for clarification on whether, when he said, “Evangelicals for Harris,” he was addressing the group, Evangelicals for Harris.

At an evening service on Sunday, Oct. 20, John MacArthur, pastor of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, appeared to echo Hibbs’ view of what happened at Harris’ rally. “In a meeting, somebody cried out, ‘Jesus is Lord,’” MacArthur said. “Did you see that? Somebody said, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and she immediately said, ‘You’re in the wrong place.’ What else do you need to know?” ChurchLeaders has reached out to MacArthur for comment.

At a different rally in Wisconsin a few days after Harris’ rally in La Crosse, vice presidential hopeful J.D. Vance told the crowd, “There is something really bizarre with Kamala Harris’ anti-Christian rhetoric and anti-Christian approach to public policy.” When someone in the crowd called out, “Jesus is king,” Vance paused to say, “That’s right, Jesus is king.”

In an X post on Tuesday, Oct. 22, former President Donald Trump posted about the La Crosse incident and said, “While Kamala said that people who believe in Jesus don’t belong to her rallies, in our Movement—We love Christians, we welcome believers, and we embrace followers of Jesus.”

The group Evangelicals for Harris commented on the rally incident on X Tuesday in a repost of a video clip showing Pastor John MacArthur’s comments on the event. The group referenced “this false narrative” and continued, “You can’t hear what is shouted in the videos from the front (where Kamala was), which is why they all require cc or audio from videos taken from the back of the rally.”

“But more importantly,” said Evangelicals for Harris, “yelling Jesus is Lord does not make you a Christian. A Trump supporter removed from a rally for yelling ‘lies, lies’ who then shouts about Jesus isn’t being persecuted for his faith.”

“If they want to know what martyrs look like, they should look to the Christians fleeing persecution from the Middle East that then President Trump denied asylum to,” the post continued.

“This lie about VP Harris is all being spread because the Right is terrified about the support Kamala is building in evangelical and other Christian circles,” Evangelicals for Harris concluded. “They are spreading this false narrative to distract from the man Trump is and because they fear that Christians are waking up to that fact.”

Ben Carson:

“In Matthew 12:34 it says, ‘Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.’”

“She didn’t have time to think about what she was going to say,” he said. “She said what’s in her heart.”

We must assume that “’Evangelicals’ For Harris” are a-okay with abortion. How is that Christian?

"Evangelicals" for Harris...right. You'd do well to remember these words...

"On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’"

Absolutely true, because these days if you vote ‘Rat you aren’t voting for an individual, you are voting for a principality and a platform. And the DemonRat platform is evil, and its principality is the “powers of this dark world and the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms”.

We have got to stop this woman. I’d encourage everyone to volunteer now to write letters to get out the conservative Christian vote at https://www.myfaithvotes.org/. The organization prefers the letters to be mailed by this Friday. You can sign up to send out as few as 10 letters if you don’t want to commit to more—and most of each letter is printed out rather than handwritten anyway, so it won’t take much time. Come on and help out.
