Kamala Harris’ record on Catholic issues: what you need to know

With President Joe Biden bowing out of the 2024 presidential race following intense pressure from within his own party, Vice President Kamala Harris is the likely Democratic nominee to face former president Donald Trump in November’s general election.

Harris was raised by a Christian father and a Hindu mother and attended both Hindu and Christian services as a child. As an adult, Harris was a member of a Black Baptist church. Her husband, Douglas Emhoff, is Jewish and attended a Reform Synagogue growing up.

Throughout her career — as vice president, senator, and attorney general of California — Harris has taken a variety of stances that could pose problems for Catholic voters, a key voting bloc.

Harris has consistently promoted abortion, scrutinized Catholic judicial nominees, and opposed pro-life pregnancy centers and activists. She has also embraced gender ideology as well as transgender and contraception mandates that have, at times, jeopardized religious freedom.

No wonder they embrace liberalism.

What Black Baptist church teaches:

“opposed pro-life pregnancy centers and activists. She has also embraced gender ideology as well as transgender and contraception”

That never stopped 99% of the Catholics I lived near, worked with, and knew from voting democrat.

And when asked how they could vote for the democrats given the Catholic church’s position on abortion, the (quote) “ Because they are for the poor.”

I was astounded that active, practicing Catholics would defy their church’s teachings so flagrantly, knowing full well what ex-communication means and the consequences the RCC warns about for people being pro-abortion.

I highly doubt you knew how Catholics who merely lived near you voted.

But with you being an ex-catholic who now attacks the Catholic Church, I wouldn't be surprised that you're prone to exaggerate in your attacks.

Sounds like you need new Catholic friends and co-workers. The numbers are reversed in our church. Our Hispanic pastor had no problem telling the entire congregation point-blank in 2020, and I quote, "You have to vote for Donald Trump". He is also a marathon runner. A good man. A good priest.

There are better articles out there that explain how she put Catholic Hospitals out of business in California.

They told me. So you’re wrong again as usual.

But with you being an ex-catholic who now attacks the Catholic Church, I wouldn't be surprised that you're prone to exaggerate in your attacks.

And as expected, Catholics accuse me of being a liar, which is the default knee jerk reaction because they cannot handle the truth about what other practicing Catholics do.

Look up Western NY politics.

Buffalo and Erie County are very heavily Catholic, I’d say about 90% of the population. LARGE Polish and Italian populations.

They have been running democrat for DECADES. Buffalo politics has had a reputation for corruption since before the early 70’s and it was clear enough to every one that I even knew about it and as a teen, I didn’t care about politics at all.

But the response to why they voted democrat was given me in person when I directly asked them why they would vote democrat in light of the teachings of the Catholic church on abortion. I was staggered to think they’d take their salvations so lightly as to do something that they knew would damn them.

You have a brave priest for being willing to do that.

Good for him.

Simply: she is democrat meaning the party for abortion murder, God is not for abortion. Choose this day whom you will serve.

Buffalo and Erie County are very heavily Catholic, I’d say about 90% of the population. LARGE Polish and Italian populations.

I am bit familiar with the demographics.

More importantly, I am familiar with Buffalo's Bishop Head, who served over 20 years, and was easily one of the worst bishops in the country. Much of the responsibility lays at his feet. Nearby Albany also had one of the worst bishops in the country. Worse, Bishop Hubbard was appointed young and and held the spot for 37 years. The Wanderer newspaper printed a 12 part series called "The Agony in Albany" and it had reported on homo misconduct in ALbany and Dallas MANY years before it broke out in the secular media, in part because lefty bishops were at the head.

The political corruption starting with Mario the Pious on down did not help things. I recall the bishops also cut a deal with Nelson Rockefeller (No friend of Catholics, he) to lighten up on abortion opposition in exchange for state funding of incidentals (busings? food?) to parochial schools. Dante talked about the floor of Hell littered with the skulls of bishops. Some of them were in NY.

I also know that Buffalo, NY had some serious Operation Rescue activity led by Catholics, and those folks had no use for pro-abort Democrats. Some of them were actually pretty likely to vote 3rd Party when the Republican alternative was George the Elder or Bob Dole, but NEVER a Dem.

Some Catholics who wanted an excuse to vote Dem would claim that SCOTUS took the question out of the political realm. Well, that excuse (sorry as it was) is GONE.

I do know in southern NY state (e.g. Syracuse, Vestal, Duchess County) there were some really good Catholic pro-lifers. You may not have seen them in your day-to-day life, but I suspect even where you are, there are more anti-Dem Catholics who keep their heads low due to corruption and mandated political correctness.

I am originally from Connecticut, so I have some NY experience. Beautiful country, ruined by NYC and bad men.

Beautiful country, ruined by NYC and bad men.

Which was probably the biggest factor in us leaving NYS.

We had talked about retiring in NH and when cuomo signed that horrendous abortion bill and the state government cheered it, I said to mr. mm that we needed to get out soon.

And did, none too soon. God dropped a great house in our laps only months before Covid and the lockdowns hit.

I did meet more conservative Catholics in CNY than I ever encountered in WNY. But anything more than none is something.

I don't believe you. I also don't believe your 99% figure.
