The Freedom From Religion Foundation has reached a settlement on behalf of The Satanic Temple (TST), according to a recent press release, after a judge ruled the Shelby County Board of Education in Memphis, TN, violated TST’s First Amendment rights by trying to stop the formation of an “After School Satan Club.
It’s not an unexpected blow, given that The Satanic Temple is “the only Satanic religious organization recognized as a church by the IRS and the Federal court system.” In this case, the after-school club was advertised as consisting of” fun” and “exciting” activities for the children, including science projects, community service projects, puzzles and games, nature activities, arts and crafts, and (of course) snacks, but was met with sharp resistance from parents and educators.
We last wrote about TST after they raffled off a free abortion to promote the organization’s religious abortion ritual, hosted SatanCon 2023′, billed as ‘The Largest Satanic Gathering in History,’ opened up a new abortion clinic to murder babies in satanic ‘ritual’ and recently saw a statue of Baphomet they erected in the Iowa Capitol destroyed and beheaded by Christian Vet Michael Cassidy. According to the press release:
“The school district attempted to thwart at every turn The Satanic Temple’s efforts to begin an after school club at Chimneyrock Elementary School. Rather than allowing it to rent school facilities on the same terms as other nonprofit organizations, including the Good News Club, the Shelby County Board of Education, which operates the district, chose to defy the First Amendment.
The district charged The Satanic Temple discriminatory rental and security fees, refused to adequately communicate, canceled the Temple’s club reservations, and generally treated members of the club as second-class citizens.”
As part of the settlement, the School Board will pay The Satanic Temple $15,000 in legal fees and will agree not to discriminate against the organization as it seeks to establish its club.

OK, appeal, but until then, no after school clubs.
Let the school have an After School Satan Club. If kids are raised right, they won’t join it. If they are raised wrong, the fact that they have this club isn’t going to change how they turn out.
If this is allowed then so is an after school Bible club.

That like saying “keep abortion legal and encouraged, for if the girls are brought up right they won’t kill their living babies inside of them.”.
While true in theory, the reality is quite different.
This satanic club is a classic ‘camel’s nose under the tent’ type of thing.
Dancing with the devil is a losing proposition.
So.. they believe there is a God?
The school in question is only a mile or two from me right now.
This school always seemed like an odd choice for a Satan Club.
The neighborhood is populated by mostly Black, middle class Christians, not the type of people you’d normally expect to accept this.
If it were in a neighborhood full of pink and purple haired liberal mothers, yes. But not this neighborhood.

In a virtuous society, a “Satan Club” in any grammar or high school would be completely destroyed, along with its backers and funders, within minutes of rearing its head.
How is forcing a religious organization on a reluctant school "freedom from religion?"
The Church of Satan is not an establishment of religion
It is explicitly a reaction to Christianity. The establishment clause references “an establishment of religion”— which Church of Satan is not. There are all manner of licensing conditions on almost every activity in America. Individuals cannot simply announce that they are a university and start conferring degrees. Similarly, the Church of Satan is an outspoken farce. Its intrinsic stated goal is the mockery of Christianity. It does not need to be treated as having free exercise rights. The individuals can do their thing mocking Christianity but they have never been an establishment of religion and Christians are being too permissive to play along.
Christian clubs still banned?
Did you have children? Bring “raised right” won’t prevent them from being curious. Further, there is peer pressure. Your 10-year-old hasn’t been raised right, you are attempting to raise your child right, there is a lot of raising left to do. Children need to be protected from evil, throwing up your hands and saying they were raised right is lazy and irresponsible. Stopping a satanic club for children at their schools is a darn good hill to die on.
