And speaking of Greek… and the ACCURATE translation of words found in the NT:

g3341. μετάνοια metanoia; from 3340; (subjectively) compunction (for guilt, including reformation); by implication, reversal (of (another's) decision): — repentance. AV (24) - repentance 24; a change of mind, as it appears to one who repents, of a purpose he has formed or of something he has done

Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, and of instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. (Heb 6:1,2)

If somebody, or a false religion, tries to hoodwink people to think the word means "penance" then they should rot.

"Repentance" and "repent" are more accurate translations.
