The Vatican’s doctrine office will publish a new document next week on discerning Marian apparitions and other supernatural events.

The Holy See Press Office announced on Tuesday that Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, the prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF), will unveil new norms for discernment regarding “apparitions and other supernatural phenomena” on Friday, May 17.

In an interview with the National Catholic Register, CNA’s sister news partner, last month, Fernandez said that the document will provide “clear guidelines and norms” for discernment.

The new norms will be the first time that the Vatican’s doctrinal office has issued a general document on apparitions in four decades. Pope Paul VI approved norms on “the discernment of presumed apparitions or revelations” in 1978.

And Jesus told Peter he was *Petros* and on the *petra* He would build His church, not on the Petros HE would build it.

Follow man if you wish.

I’m sticking with the One who died for me.

Three verses cited...

More than that, actually, but none of which that remotely teaches the unbiblical "Bible Alone" doctrine. Based on that, I'll let the unbiased readers of this thread decide for themselves.

For sure.

Being raised Catholic, there was no end to hearing that everything I did was not good enough to get me into heaven, that I had to do more.

Jesus did it all for me.

Gee, now you purport to be a mind reader and the judge of people's hearts. Are there no end to your talents? I can tell you that I believe no such thing but, being the supreme judge of others hearts, you would say I'm lying.

There have been a plethora of Catholics on these threads that claim the Catholic church wrote the Bible and we are to thank it for giving us God's word.

Anyone who has been on these threads enough has seen it.

Unbiased and non-hate filled people reading this thread can read my comments above and decide for themselves which one makes more sense to them. You are welcome to your own misinterpretations based entirely on a lack of evidence—biblical or otherwise.

Appealing to a non-existent text or claim does NOT prove your point.

The Holy Spirit saw fit to inspired the NT in Greek. That's all we have to go by.

If you want to think that what might have been said in another language counts for anything, provide the text to prove your point. Otherwise, you're expressing a baseless assumption.

Then there's this......

Acts 17:1-3 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews. And Paul went in, as was his custom, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and proving that it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus, whom I proclaim to you, is the Christ.”

Acts 17:10-11 The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue. 11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

And on the road to Emmaus, Jesus used Scripture to convince the disciples about Himself.

It's interesting how many religions state that Scripture isn't enough and one has to use their additional material, call them sacred texts or sacred tradition.

Call it the Catechism of the Catholic church, the Book of Mormon, whatever it is, something always has to be added to the work of God to improve on His work.

If their god is so incompetent that He can't handle taking care of this stuff Himself, but needs the help of sin corrupted people to fix it, they need a bigger God.

When all else fails, accuse others who disagree with you of *hate*. Anyone who exposes the fallacies of Catholicism is labeled a *hater*. Just like leftists do to anyone who dares to disagree with them and show they are wrong, which is hardly surprising considering how democrat the vast majority of Catholic vote.

Typical Catholic fall back position.

Maybe you should review Church history.

Catholic Church historians did a large survey of the writings of the early church fathers regarding their interpretation of Matthew 16:18 and they found almost none that thought it was built on Peter. The overwhelming majority said that the church was built on Peter’s confession. The eastern church, Orthodox, never claimed that the church was built on Peter. But then again the Orthodox understood the difference in the Greek words used for Peter (petros) and the “rock” (petra) the church was to be built on and weren’t grasping for straws to try to justify the claim of the supremacy of Rome.

Here’s what I don’t understand.

The Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant Churches all agree that Scripture is infallible. So any tradition or writing that goes against Scripture has to be rejected by all three.

Yet Esphesians 2:8-9 says: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

And Romans 4:2-8: For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.” Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness, just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works:

“Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven,
and whose sins are covered; blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin.”

So why does the Catholic Church repudiate these Scriptures by adding merits and works? Does it or doesn’t it believe Scripture to be the infallible Word of God?

RWC: Show me in Scripture where Mary ascends to “heaven” before death. Show me in Scripture where Purgatory is declared by The Lord.

fidelis: Show me in Scripture where it says that everything a Christian needs to believe is found in Scripture. Surely such a foundational doctrine would be explicitly found there. Don't bother with 2 Timothy 3:16 because it only says that Scripture is "useful" or "profitable," not sufficient.

That's not an answer. That's a deflection, otherwise known as a *red herring*.

https://practicalpie.com/red-herring-fallacy/

A Red Herring Fallacy is an example of a deceptive tactic that diverts attention away from the real issue at hand, steering the conversation towards a different, often unrelated, topic.

How about trying to actually answer the question instead of changing the subject?

How ironic that you posted the meme that applies more to you. I'm sure RWC will NEVER get an answer, as every time challenges like that are made, the Catholic knee jerk reaction is to change the subject.

What never seems to occur to people who add (sacred) tradition or other sacred writings to Scripture, is that Scripture is the truth and anything that doesn’t line up with it is false teaching and can be rightly rejected.

If it does line up with Scripture, then it’s redundant and didn’t need to be added to the church teaching anyways, as it’s already addressed in Scripture.

The problem comes in where there is NO mention of something in Scripture. That seems to leave people feeling free to add to Scripture with lame attempts at validating it with weak excuses like *God can do anything He wants*, and * It COULD have happened*.

Well, no to the first one and perhaps to the second. But they then seem to see it as license to fabricate any story their imagination or wishful thinking provides and teach it as truth and then claim you have to believe it or assume it’s true unless you can disprove it.

But that’s not how logic works. Make a claim, and provide evidence to support it. Then if someone wants to challenge it, it’s on them to disprove it. But to assume something is true with no supporting evidence and put the burden on someone else is intellectually lazy.

Godwin’s Corollary

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin%27s_law

Godwin’s law, short for Godwin’s law (or rule) of Nazi analogies, is an Internet adage asserting: “As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1.”

Therefore, you lost the argument.

Fidelis knows he can’t back up with Scripture multiple items the RC’s love to force their ignorant adherents to. This is why he brings up Red Herrings and distractions. But they love to push these anyways:

1. Marian Worship
2. Perpetual Virginity of Mary
3. Ascension of Mary
4. Concept of Purgatory
5. Sacred ‘tradition’
6. Holy ‘relics’
7. Kissing dead bony bodies of “saints” (I’ve seen it - YUCK)
8. “Holy” Water (really?)
9. Worship of “saints”
10. Worship of the Evil Pope

Whereas, here is what us former RC’s have come to find out.

2 Peter 1:3-4
as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

John 1:12 - 13
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

I don’t need a Pope, priest, or a building (your ‘church) to be a Child of God - Imagine that!

You guys need a reason to exist to justify your organization and since you quote 2 Timothy 3:16 and use it as an excuse to search other things supposedly not found in Scripture, I will counter that you go on and look for those things in Demonic Origin (not found in Scripture) as you add and heap curses upon yourselves.
Don’t believe me?

You believe a different gospel not found in Scripture .

Galatians 1:8
But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.

2 Corinthians 11:14
And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.

Matthew 4:10
“Away from Me, Satan!” Jesus declared. “For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.’”

(Not Mary, Dead Saints, Popes, or angels as RC’s do).

Search for things to add to Christian Doctrine and you’ll find it. You certainly have and it’s not of God.

It’s almost as if it takes a special type of mental/emotional tweaking (spiritually speaking) to confuse a victim into believing that what their Bibles say isn’t 100% true and needs more proof coming from people in a religious hierarchal system. This is how cults form.

They need a narrative to add to the doubt that is created already with their subtle suggestions about a fact not being 100% - sounds like the Garden of Eden and the serpent all over again. Did God really say?

Jesus really didn’t mean just believe in Him?
Jesus really didn’t mean His Death & Resurrection was sufficient?
Jesus only forgave you of your sins up to this present time. You sin one more time and it’s back in the hell destination line for you.

RC’s suffer from their mentally abusive system.
