Three points -
1. Celibacy among the clergy is purely for the Latin rite Catholic clergy - and is a discipline, not dogma
2. The Church since the 1990s (too late I agree) has rooted out the ways in which people which such tendencies have joined. It is also strangely “helped” by the current cultural acceptance of these proclivities so men with such, ahem, proclivities, now go elsewhere.
3. I’ve noted that due to the scandals, the only men who join the priesthood today are those who KNOW they will be cursed and suspected and even then join because they truly have a calling.
Thanks for the education. Here I am raised Catholic and I always thought that celibacy was Catholic dogma. I researched the issue after reading your post and was quite enlightened.
