It must be emphasized that the main storyline presented Jesus as having been relentlessly pursued by an evil cabal of Jews, headed by the high priest Caiaphas, who finally blackmailed a weak-kneed Pilate into putting Jesus to death. This is precisely what happened.

It was last year before I could watch Mel’s movie...urged on by a pastor.
The First Crack of the Whip almost made me ill and I’d stop it.
I’ll probably never watch it again.

I fail to see what their argument is with Gibson’s film. He adhered to the Gospels and the blame went around exactly as written. I see it as Jesus, speaking too much truth with the sheer aura of his faith, was put down by the controlling factions fearful of his overwhelming surety (and following) making them insecure of their power.
