CHRIST IN THE OLD TESTAMENT
Before Bethlehem, Jesus intervened often in this world. This series presents some of those occasions, along with “types” of Christ: people and objects who represent Him and His qualities.

22nd PSALM: PREDICTING JESUS’ CRUCIFIXION IN DETAIL PSALM 22
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
1
2 by JAMES TISSOT "Eloi Eloi Lama Sabacthani"
I am scorned by men and despised by the people. All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads: “He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him.”
3 VASILY VERESHCHAGIN "Crucifixion"
Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you even at my mother’s breast. From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother’s womb you have been my God. Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help.

I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me. My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death.

CHRIST THE COKE MACHINE
We sin.
Then confession’s coin rolls in.
Out bounces sweet can of forgiveness.
We drink it all down with barely a frown
for myrrh-mingled wine’s sour business.
Thirst quenched
brief
with quick-feigned repentance,
unmindful of looming death sentence,
soon
sin-licking lips
forgetting in sips,
rejecting with gall
upon hyssop.
These are all very moving, Dan. Thank you.

Imagine how moved the young Jesus must have been when He read this for the first time and realized it described His future.

Did you write that?
Very convicting.

the Tissot’s are in a class by themselves
and
#4 is especially pleasing to the eye because The Light Has Come Into The World and
Mary does look like a virgin - not much more than a child

Love this, thank you!
My fav is #5. All babies seem such cute precious miracles, but to know who this particular baby is and why he came is beyond powerful. Humbling. What He’s done for us sinners.
