Revelation 21:1-7 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son.

Lamentations 3:22-24

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”

Isaiah 43:18-19 Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

2 Corinthians 4:16-17 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.

Colossians 3:9-10 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

2 Peter 3:13 But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

Father, Thank You for this new year. Although we don't have much reason to anticipate it going to be a good year for our country, we thank You and rejoice in the fact that You are a God of new things and some day will make all things new. And when You do new things, they are awesome and truly new.

We ask for our country and its deep spiritual needs, that Your Holy Spirit would move in hearts and minds in people across the country to reconcile them to You. For believers, bring us into ever closer relationship with You and increasing Christlikeness in our character and lives. Give us hearts of repentance and grief over sin and gratitude for ALL the blessings You bestow on us.

For those who are not yet saved, may Your Holy Spirit do His work of conviction of sin, righteousness, and judgment in their lives and bring them to a saving knowledge of You. Remove from their hearts and minds the blindness with which Satan has blinded them and let them clearly see the Truth of Your word and Your great love for them.

Let this be a year of new beginnings for all of us. In Jesus' name.
