Thank you, Dan.
Tissot, Caravaggio, Giotto, Fra Angelico, the early Renaissance friar which was painted on the wall in the monk’s cell at the San Marco Convent, now a museum. His painting are very serene, luminous, reflecting the gentleness of heart of this beloved artist.

I’ve grown to enjoy seeing Fra Angelico’s works, Alba. Seems like he was advanced ahead of his contemporaries.

I love the action in #11, by Ford Madox Brown...see the disciple untying his sandals, readying for a wash? (behind Jesus) - Great composition, wonderful balance.

I have learned a little about my tastes through these threads, Dan. Thanks so much! ...and the 'Pre-Raphaelite' Brown has become a favorite.

#29, Cremonini - captures the emotions in the garden - very unique> love it!

Fra Angelico always prayed for inspiration. It was his habit never to retouch or alter any of his paintings, but to leave them as they came the first time, believing that such was the will of God. Vasari wrote that whenever he painted Christ in pain, he wept.
He was much inspired by the early Renaissance pioneers in Florence and the sculptures of Ghiberti.
His real name was Fra Giovanni, “Angelico” came posthumously. In Italy, he’s known simply as “Beato Angelico,” since Pope John Paul II beatified him in 1982.

77) Their brother was Lazarus. I wonder what he was thinking when he got resuscitated in the tomb and found himself all wrapped up on cloth.

78) Hmmm ... well: He washed their feet, which Peter either didn’t want ... or wanted his hands and face washed as well. He also said “one of you is about to betray me”, which got them all a bit stirred up. But I guess that’s saying something, not doing something, so I’ll go with the foot-washing.

79) Peter, James, and John?

80) Judas betrayed Him with a kiss. Kinda creepy, if you ask me ...

The incredible Yongsung Kim returns

So glad he is still painting, eager to see what he and the Spirit collaborate on next.

I always enjoy hearing how closely you view these works, John. Regularly, you notice what others miss. You get more from it because you put more into it.

He’s a remarkable talent with a great sense of what is truly important in a scene or a setting. He communicates with his paintings, they aren’t just representations of events (not that there’s anything bad about that, a lot of great works stop there). The Spirit is talking through his work.

It was his habit never to retouch or alter any of his paintings, but to leave them as they came the first time, believing that such was the will of God.

Now that is integrity! More than artistic integrity, it is spiritual integrity.

That is the kind of piety I have been longing to encounter all along. I infer it from many, but it is bracing to see it claimed explicitly.

Thank you, Alba.

#2 is really wonderful in the way it illustrates Jesus' humanity. There He is, sitting at the table with his friends, having a casual conversation. Who of us has not been there, with our friends? It is one of the great joys of being human. When St. Paul wrote of Jesus "emptying himself" and being found "in the likeness of man", we often think somehow in terms of Him degrading Himself. But it is not so ... He experienced, as Man, both our joys and sorrows.

Many years ago, Joan Osborne (no relation to Ozzy that I know of) sang "What if God was one of us?". Mentally, I answer: But He IS. And #2, to me, beautifully illustrates what that looked like, when He 'let His hair down' and hung out with His friends, as "one of us".

Somehow, it's easy to surmise that Jesus felt at home in their presence, almost as the fourth sibling. It appears The Chosen has adopted that approach.

Wow. Lots of good art today.

My favorites (art that I would love in my house) are
Jesus Wept #8 and #9
Jesus washing Peter’s feet #15
I also think those pieces would show very well in a secular art exhibit...They hold their own.

And the sculpture #49 is stunning.

My favorites (art that I would love in my house)

I have two pieces in my home which I treasure: one my wife took of our daughters monkeyshining in the bathtub, and the famous dugout photo of seven Dodgers, five of whom are Hall-of-Famers:
