in theory you could have female priests If you're Catholic ... NO ... in theory you CANNOT have priestesses. It is an impossibility, and its impossibility is to be held de fide by all Catholics. Priestesses are a heresy.
If you're Protestant ... your mileage may vary. But we're not talking about that.

The Catholic Church teaches that women cannot be ordained priests because Jesus willingly chose only men as his apostles.
But they'll have to make a better argument. It was a patriarchal society back then. So perhaps, the Catholic Church needs to teach that both women and men are different? Maybe we need to recognize that. Apparently we've forgotten the differences between genders.
