“The Catholic Church teaches that when we partake of the Eucharist in Holy Communion, we are consuming the actual physical body of Jesus Christ (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1244, 1275, 1375).”

What bothers me the most about these Catholic "we are better Christians than you" threads is that they assume everyone else is doing it wrong.

You mean kinda like THIS??

MORMON
ATTITUDES OF SUPERIORITY

  1. I’m Superior; I have a special gift of the holy Ghost -- you don’t!
  2. I’m Superior; I have God’s true priesthood power -- you don’t!
  3. I’m Superior; I can go in God’s secret Temple -- you can’t!
  4. I’m Superior; I’ve been Endowed with special Gifts and Knowledge -- you’re just normal!
  5. I’m Superior; I’ll have my family with me in heaven -- you’ll be with strangers!
  6. I’m Superior; I’m becoming a God -- you aren’t!
  7. I’m Superior; My women know their place as servants of man and yours don’t.
  8. I’m Superior; YOUR creeds are wrong because they come from man - mine comes from God (you can find each one printed in our Scriptures).
  9. I’m Superior; I don’t HAVE a creed - I’ve got 13 Articles of Faith.
10. I'm Superior; I have 4 "Bibles"-- the standard works (5 if you count the JST) -- you've only got one: in as far as it is translated correctly.
11. I’m Superior; I can lie with impunity about such things as church membership, church growth, church doctrine, church history, church influence, etc. —                           -- You can’t.
12. I’m Superior; I am right (everybody knows) when I say 'evangelical' Christians are lunatics --
-- You’re a hideous narrow-minded bigot, who is persecuting me by practicing discrimination by saying I'm not a Christian.
13. I'm Superior; I have a testimony about a prophet -- you don't.
14. I'm Superior; I have a Scripture-producing Amos 3:7 prophet -- you don't
15. I’m Superior; I have a Living Prophet who talks to god every day -- you have a dim-witted hireling of Satan who only talks to himself.
16. I'm Superior; I have my calling & election made sure -- you don't.
17. I’m Superior; I have magic underwear to protect me from the bogey man -- you don’t.
18. I’m Superior; I have secret clasps and grips to give the angel so I get admitted to the celestial kingdom -- you don’t ;so you can’t.
19. I'm Superior; I know secret handshake codes for afterlife entrances-- you don't.
20. I’m Superior; I will see Joseph Smith setting on the right hand of GOD, when I get to Mormon heaven, and he will recognize me and judge me favorably                              -- You’re on your own; when you get to wherever you’re going!
21. I’m Superior; I’m going to hie to Kolob -- you’re going to who knows where.
22. I’m Superior; I get to have a harem and act like a celestial stud for time and all eternity -- you don’t.
23. I’m Superior; I have sun stones, moon stones, sky stones, cloud stones, Saturn stones, and the evil eye of Osirus guarding my temple
-- You have nothing but a stupid cross.
24. I’m Superior; My church has billions in assets stashed away -- yours has taken a stupid vow of poverty.
25. I'm Superior; Last - we have the power to keep a whole race out of our priesthood if we wanted to reinsert our 148-year legacy  (we ARE still keeping an entire GENDER at bay!)
26.  I'm superior; I have the "higher law" -- everyone else "lives under the "lesser law' because I say so...(over and over).

“For a Jewish crowd that knew all about metaphor and symbolism, the ones who walked away were those who TOOK Him literally”

“Those who stayed understood He meant a spiritual and symbolic eating and drinking and knew He was talking about having FAITH in Him.”

In my opinion (and I don’t know you), I feel that you have accepted the protestant version as they left and rejected this part of the Catholic faith that was accepted by Christians for over 1500 years. As they left the Catholic Church, they were not able to obtain this gift from Jesus of His Body and Blood in the Sacrament of the Eucharist. So they rejected the words of Jesus and will possibly sacrifice their salvation because of it.

Peter and the Apostles didn’t initially understand the command to eat and drink the Body and Blood of Jesus, but they clearly accepted the words of Jesus as God’s truth. They participated in the Mass at the Last Supper and continued this Sacrament of the Eucharist for the remainder of their lives on earth and passed it on to their successors.

My question to you: How can multiple thousands of versions of the protestant beliefs all be correct and in agreement with God’s Truths?

Has Satan lied and made it easier to follow the easy path that leads to destruction by changes in what Jesus taught like he did with Adam and Eve in the garden? Has Satan lied to men and encouraged them to start multiple versions of protestant churches that are easy to follow?

I can not speak for others, but I am not trying to say anyone is better Christian than any other Christian. I am not trying to judge anyone or force beliefs. I don’t know how Jesus will judge us with Mercy or Justice. I do know that He said few will find the narrow gate to salvation. Everyone needs to accept God with his heart and conscience.

All I am trying to do is to share the Catholic Faith passed down by Jesus, the Apostles and their successors. I am repeating the words of Jesus as He asked us to share them with all nations.

If protestants are wrong with their interpretation of John 6:53, what is the consequence? Are they not willing to accept God’s Truth? I believe some protestant beliefs are not God’s Truth some are heresy.

I think you have tried to defend protestant beliefs, yet I disagree with that defense of protestant beliefs as God’s Truth.

Thanks for your prayers and discussion. I will pray for you at Mass.

The CCC itself is not infallible, and Ratzinger stated, “The individual doctrines that the catechism affirms have no other authority than that which they already possess,” ( Cf. Joseph Ratzinger, “The Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Optimism of the Redeemed,” Communio 20.3 (1993): 479.) but which leaves the reading needing to judge what authority each reference has, and often as well as what the CCC means, to varying degrees.

Or consistent:

Even the Roman Catechism can't agree with itself!!

How the Catechism of the Catholic Church” now describes the “Petrine succession”:

881 The Lord made Simon alone, whom he named Peter, the “rock” of his Church. He gave him the keys of his Church and instituted him shepherd of the whole flock. “The office of binding and loosing which was given to Peter was also assigned to the college of apostles united to its head.” This pastoral office of Peter and the other apostles belongs to the Church’s very foundation and is continued by the bishops under the primacy of the Pope.

882 The Pope, Bishop of Rome and Peter’s successor, “is the perpetual and visible source and foundation of the unity both of the bishops and of the whole company of the faithful.” “For the Roman Pontiff, by reason of his office as Vicar of Christ, and as pastor of the entire Church has full, supreme, and universal power over the whole Church, a power which he can always exercise unhindered.”

883 “The college or body of bishops has no authority unless united with the Roman Pontiff, Peter’s successor, as its head.” As such, this college has “supreme and full authority over the universal Church; but this power cannot be exercised without the agreement of the Roman Pontiff.”

Sure different than what Augustine and many OTHER Early Church Fathers taught; isn't it

That is ALSO different from what the CCC said earlier!

PART ONE
THE PROFESSION OF FAITH

SECTION TWO
THE PROFESSION OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH

CHAPTER TWO
I BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST, THE ONLY SON OF GOD

The Good News: God has sent his Son

422 'But when the time had fully come, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.'1 This is 'the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God':'2 God has visited his people. He has fulfilled the promise he made to Abraham and his descendants. He acted far beyond all expectation - he has sent his own 'beloved Son'.3

423 We believe and confess that Jesus of Nazareth, born a Jew of a daughter of Israel at Bethlehem at the time of King Herod the Great and the emperor Caesar Augustus, a carpenter by trade, who died crucified in Jerusalem under the procurator Pontius Pilate during the reign of the emperor Tiberius, is the eternal Son of God made man. He 'came from God',4 'descended from heaven',5 and 'came in the flesh'.6 For 'the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father. . . And from his fullness have we all received, grace upon grace.'7

424 Moved by the grace of the Holy Spirit and drawn by the Father, we believe in Jesus and confess: 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.'8 On the rock of this faith confessed by St. Peter, Christ built his Church.9

And those who die in that obedient faith will go to be forever with Him at death

I read the Word a bit differently on this:

1 Thessalonians 4:13
Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.

Daniel 12:2
Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.

1 Corinthians 15:51-52
Listen, I tell you a mystery:
We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.
For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 King James Version (KJV)
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Dead in Christ?

Then what's this RAISING that is being bandied about here?

I've got news for you...those who reject the contrived Roman Catholic doctrine of Transubstantiation and participate with fellow worshippers in the Lord's Supper remembrance are MORE in line with how Peter and the Apostles as well as the early church did than your religion. The gift of God is eternal life through FAITH in Jesus Christ. The Lord's Supper is and always was a remembrance of what He did for us on the cross and our showing we believe in Him until He comes again - just as HE commanded us to. Your Mass is a re-sacrifice over and over which contradicts so very many passages of Scripture that tell us Jesus died ONCE FOR ALL.

My question to you: How can multiple thousands of versions of the protestant beliefs all be correct and in agreement with God’s Truths?

This is such an inane strawman I would think by now you'd be ashamed to toss it out there! There AREN'T thousands of versions of beliefs just because there may be various denominations within Protestantism. On the major tenets of the Christian faith there is very much unity among most of them. Roman Catholicism also has denominations/rites. Are they all contradictory of each other? Why so many different ones? This has all been explained to you numerous times but you keep this little "zinger" in your back pocket to toss out when you think it may prove your point - it doesn't.

All I am trying to do is to share the Catholic Faith passed down by Jesus, the Apostles and their successors. I am repeating the words of Jesus as He asked us to share them with all nations.

No, that's not what you're trying to do. Read back over your OP and your posts. You state ONLY the Catholic beliefs are true and everyone else rejects "what Jesus meant". Be honest.

I think you have tried to defend protestant beliefs, yet I disagree with that defense of protestant beliefs as God’s Truth.

Actually, I'm not. I'm defending what I believe is the truth the Bible teaches. I've never advocated for any denomination nor cult. I rejoice that there are genuine, born-again believers in Jesus Christ in many different churches. Jesus said His sheep hear His voice and follow Him and He knows them and they will never perish nor be plucked from His hands. I even think some Catholics might be included too.

Thanks for your prayers and discussion. I will pray for you at Mass.

If you want to pray for me, pray for my continued recovery of health. I will pray for you. as well.

That be me. I can’t believe I used to be in the Catholic cult, on the Catholic hamster wheel of guilt, never knowing if I could ever be good enough to attain Heaven. I began to feel differently, when someone told me I could NEVER be good enough. He said I could let Jesus pay for my sins, or I would have to pay for them myself. If I had to pay for them myself, it would take all eternity to pay for them, and I still couldn’t pay the price. Such is the case for all who are trying to establish their own righteousness. It will not work, not now, not ever. So, why do cult members hold on to their false beliefs on salvation? I have no idea.

To think otherwise, without immediate repentance, may cost one his faith, may destroy his testimony, and leave him a stranger to the kingdom of God.

Well, it was 1945 the Church was barely 100 years old, members weren’t perfect, still aren’t. Perspective always is helpful when examining things you aren’t too familiar with.

Do you understand the underlying reason these threads garner so many responses? From your very first post here you accuse those who disagree with you of not believing what Jesus said when, in reality, we don't believe the Catholic interpretation of what Jesus said.

Exactly!

Well said, sister.

And a HUGE part of that reason is because the Catholic interpretation violates and contradicts God's clear and explicit commands in the rest of inspired, God breathed Scripture against eating blood.

Recognizing communion as symbolic does not contradict what God said in other places.

And thank God for that because as a Catholic I knew I was not and never could be good enough to get into heaven, and as a born again, born from above believer, I still know that I cannot and never will be good enough to get into heaven.

I could never live long enough to do enough good works to negate all the sin I committed if that were even possible, which it’s not.

Or the tens of millions of Catholic denominations - where each member picks and chooses what to believe and adds whatever else they prefer.

How could they all be true??
