MARTYRS IN THE BIBLE
THREE WELCOME
THE FOURTH MAN

DANIEL 3

STANDING FOR GOD

King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold, ninety feet high and nine feet wide. Then the herald loudly proclaimed, “Whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace.”

Some astrologers came forward and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, “There are some Jews—Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego—who pay no attention to you, O king. They neither serve your gods nor worship the image of gold you have set up.”

Furious with rage, Nebuchadnezzar summoned Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “If you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace.”

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied, “If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

SAVED BY GOD

Then Nebuchadnezzar was furious. He ordered the furnace heated seven times hotter than usual and commanded the soldiers to throw them into the blazing furnace. These three men, firmly tied, fell into the blazing furnace.

Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.”

Nebuchadnezzar then shouted, “Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!” So Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out of the fire. The fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them.

Then Nebuchadnezzar said, “Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants! They trusted in him and defied the king’s command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God.”

Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the province of Babylon.

I looked for a version that was sung by Tennessee Ernie Ford, but couldn’t find one. He sang it in his deep baritone that sounded great!........................

#1: They look like “central casting” for the Three Musketeers.

#9 & #22: The Angel is looking sideways (not up, down, or directly out); seems to me to be a challenging look at King Neb. “Your move, King ... Choose wisely.”

Good Morning Dan, and happy Thursday to all.

What a story! A classic of faith, with many ‘new’ artists as well.

Thank You Dan-

“Your move, King ... Choose wisely.”

And the King did indeed choose wisely in the end, though not without some amazing detours. In a couple of weeks I will be featuring ol' Neb in my next series, "!Surprising Salvations!"

I love this story of trust and loyalty.
This is our model.

If life threatens us with a fiery furnace, we are called to remain steadfast in the Lord.

And I think that sometimes He tosses us into the fiery furnace To Burn Away The Dross.

Our pastor was preaching on Malachi 3:3--"He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver."

He explained that God would skim off the dross, and He would know He had finished when He could look into the pot of silver and see His own reflection perfectly clearly.

I love that!

We have been studying Malachi in Sunday School. Still on Chapter 2. We started 7 weeks ago and as usual, we are not very fast...savoring The Word.

That same pastor preached through Philemon's single chapter in six weeks.
