Woke Presbyterian Church Uses ‘Pumpkin Spiced Communion’ to Draw in Visitors
Protestia ^ | September 25, 2023 | staff

As fall arrives in the Christian world, the occasional woke church and cringe congregation will advertise on their signs that they are serving pumpkin spice communion, which invariably ends up being just a gag or a way to get attention, such as the following congregations ove rthe years.

Not so with Beacon Church in Philedelphia. An LGBTQ-affirming, recently chartered church of the Presbyterian Church (USA), Rev. Laura Colee has made it their mission to be relevent, and what better way than dressing up the body of Christ with a little cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cloves as a way of drawing in folks fascinated by the novelty of it all?

We contacted the ‘church’ to see if they were indeed serious, and they confirmed “We’ll be using a pumpkin-spiced brioche bread starting this Sunday throughout October.”

While it’s not as bad as the time that a Woke Church uses Skittles and Ice Tea for Communion Elements in Honor of Trayvon Martin’s Last Meal, it also isn’t much better.

They have lost the total meaning of The Body of Christ

As if that is going to make any difference?

The only difference is this is for real.

“This is the Body of Christ, flavored to suit you.”

These gimmicks are an admission that the church is a failure as a purveyor of The Word. If they can’t provide spiritual fulfillment at least they have good eats! JPII used to hold mass in an open field in Poland because the communists wouldn’t allow him to have a church. And people still came.

There was a bunch of jokes I could have made but just could not bring myself to do it. Holy Communion is something I take very seriously and something about this just turns my stomach.

These people have truly lost it.

I remember visiting a pentecostal church as a kid and the pastor told a different story about the pastor from another church that served milk and cookies for communion.

I remember the pastor said “I’m not saying God did this, but this pastor died that night!”

These gimmicks are an admission that the church is a failure as a purveyor of The Word.

There’s a church near Minneapolis that advertises their services with big billboards with the words “Jesus, coffee, bacon”

For them, it’s just bread anyway, and a worse-than-meaningless ritual. They might as well have pretzels and beer. How about chips and queso for Super Bowl Sunday?

I think it is very symbolic of what has happened to the Church. It also was predicted by the prophets, regarding end times.

At least, it’s the bread, not the wine!

A mere silly detail. Communion with whom?

It's a buggery Church. That means "god" is a metaphor for ruling class interests.

On one hand, the Lord’s Supper was with regular food, and the act of remembering the Lord on Sunday is done with regular food. It’s nothing special and not sanctified, just a symbol of Christ’s body and blood. My church uses some kind of Matzo crackers and grape juice.

When camping with my friends, we had a Lord’s Supper around a campfire using a hot dog bun and Mountain Dew, because that’s what we had.

Thinking that you’re being trendy by advertising pumpkin spice communion bread is just stupid and arrogant though.

Presbyterians never did believe the communion was about the Body of Christ. They think it’s just a symbol. As Flannery OConnor said, “if it’s just a symbol, then the hell with it.”
