Ever had someone tell you, ‘You’re missing the whole point! The purpose of Genesis is to teach that God is our Creator. We should not be divisive over the small details. Genesis teaches the theological truth of “Who?” and “Why?” not about the “How?” and “When?”’ Or else they say that the Bible is a book for faith and morality, not history.
An obvious answer is, why should we trust Genesis when it says God created if we can’t trust it on the details? After all, Jesus told Nicodemus, ‘I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things?’ (John 3:12). So if Genesis can’t be trusted on an earthly thing, such as Earth’s age, the sequence of creative acts upon it, or the Flood that covered it, then why trust it on a heavenly thing such as who the Creator was? Also, if Genesis 1 were merely meant to tell us that God is creator, then why simply not stop at verse 1, all that’s necessary to state this?
However, the critic has overlooked something even more important—Genesis is written as real history. This is why the rest of the Bible treats the events, people, and time sequences as real history—not parables, poetry, or allegory.

You seem to have human nature figured out.
The only disagreement would be the reference to a small airplane.
The airplane needs to be large and noisy in order to accommodate an adequately sized banner and alert people indoors to it’s passing. On the order of three times the length of the Goodyear blimp. Takeoff could be interesting or perhaps an airborne pass to hook the banner which would be about 740 feet long.
Funding could be an issue, but now we are back to a small airplane.
Yes. And I've read it many more times. They're idiots and hypocrites. They say Genesis is "not a textbook of science" but they believe the "new testament" is a textbook of gynecology.
A single miracle completely destroys the "uniformity of nature." But here you have people who believe everything in the "new testament" actually happened but who for some reason have this irrational NEED for the creation of the universe from nothing be a purely natural phenomenon!

"The critic" doesn't care. Forget him. (Too bad the author is a messy antic!)
Understanding the very complex story is no easy task. Leon Kass' book "The Beginning of Wisdom" was extrodinarily illuminating.

Wrong. Before calling it a day, and before creating the sun, God said, “Let there be light”. The earth revolved in the light of God.
Ha Adam and Eve were created on the 8th day. Read the accounts more to a mind of OG languages. Man is Adam. Ha Adam, means The Man. That is why Cain went off to other countries to find a place to live. We have no idea how long ago Creation was. The clock began when The Adam was created as the first of the people of a particular tribe of people.
The Bible has always been the story of the sons of Adam and Eve, from whose loins Christ was to come. Every other people are peripheral.
I know people won’t go for that, but tell me how there was a “Land of Nod” for Cain to go to and find a wife? It also explains the gap between human civilization being older that 5800 years.
I believe that Genesis is true history. However, I believe there is an unknown amount of time between the first and second verses of chapter one, and the rest of the creation account.
Christ mentioned Noah, Adam and other Old Testament figures.
Just think some day you can chat with Peter and clear things up ... you know that bit about be NOT ignorant. Who told you Peter's intent ... Peter is not giving a first hand account and IF he is to be taken for who he is said to be, Peter was led by the Holy Spirit to clear a few things up about the 'days' of creation ...
Did you also ignore Peter describing three different heaven/earth worlds (ages).. Some will just have to wait until the 'day' of the Lord to begin.
This should clear things up.🤣
Genesis 2:4
This is a history of the heavens and the earth in the time they were created, in “The Day” that God made earth and heaven.😇
Do you suppose God wears an Apple watch?;-)
Is that supposed to be humorous?
Please explain.
There is a middle ground. It is quite possible to misunderstand what God means. Because of the very complex subject matter he is communicating to us and our lack of a foundation for understanding "eternal" things, it is hard to know when he is being literal and when he is being allegorical.
As an aside, there have been many amateur theologians who have used the old saw, "If you don't accept my literal interpretation of the Bible, you are calling God a liar."
That doesn't work.;-)
There are those placed in the spirit of slumber…. For their own protection. No flesh is going to wake one placed in a heaven sent slumber.
Time exists for humans because we have a limited amount of it.
That’s an interesting thought. Can you point me to some locations where I can read more on it?
When I said it is hard to know when God is being literal and when he is being allegorical, I should add that I believe the Holy Spirit (in prayer) brings a lot of clarity to each believer re: such confusion.
Romans 11.
Your post read as: “If God exists outside of time and space, how is it that he has a calendar with days on it?”
Do you suppose God wears an Apple watch?;-)
I didn’t understand the, “how is it he has a calendar with days on it?”
Obviously, man made the calendar, not God.
Yes it does!
And that book was written 2500 years ago and the words are as true today as they were when they were first written.
