The Best of
PETER PAUL
RUBENS

PETER PAUL RUBENS (1577 – 1640) was a Flemish artist from the Southern Netherlands. He is considered the most influential artist of the Flemish Baroque tradition. Rubens's highly charged compositions reference erudite aspects of classical and Christian history. His unique and immensely popular Baroque style emphasized movement, colour, and sensuality, which followed the immediate, dramatic artistic style promoted in the Counter-Reformation. Rubens was a prolific artist. The catalogue of his works lists 1,403 pieces.

“Religion figured prominently in much of his work, and Rubens later became one of the leading voices of the Catholic Counter-Reformation style of painting (he had said "My passion comes from the heavens, not from earthly musings").”

As Henry Higgins observed, “The French don’t care what you do actually, as long as you pronounce it correctly.”

The catalogue of his works lists 1,403 pieces. One wonders how many were totally his work from conception to completion.

Hello Dan, and Rubens works are so exciting! I was surprised that he has at least two styles, I mean, to my untutored eyes, many look much different from his others.

Can anyone comment on this? Maybe etabeta will, if she visits today.

These are quite a treat. My personal favorite, is his portrait. Thank You Dan !!

I supposed, without actually knowing, we were seeing art by his staff.

You have a keen eye.

As I scrolled through the gallery I was wondering if they were all Rubens but on different surfaces and using different materials. That would also effect the outcome of the product.
