The Bible In Paintings Encouragement for Applying and Appreciating God's Word |
“Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, known as simply Caravaggio (1571 – 1610), was an Italian painter active in Rome. His paintings have been characterized by art critics as combining a realistic observation of the human state, both physical and emotional, with a dramatic use of lighting, which had a formative influence on Baroque painting. “Caravaggio employed close physical observation with a dramatic use of chiaroscuro. He made the technique a dominant stylistic element, transfixing subjects in bright shafts of light and darkening shadows. Caravaggio vividly expressed crucial moments and scenes, often featuring violent struggles, torture, and death. Questions about his mental state arose from his erratic and bizarre behavior. “His inspiring effect on the new Baroque style that emerged from Mannerism was profound. His influence can be seen directly or indirectly in the work of Peter Paul Rubens, Jusepe de Ribera, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, and Rembrandt. The 20th-century art historian André Berne-Joffroy stated: ‘What begins in the work of Caravaggio is, quite simply, modern painting.’” excerpted from Wikipedia

She claims to be a Christian. I’ll not disparage her faith, which is between her and God.

Caravagio is in my top 10 for sure. Numbers 17 and 18 are painting replication we grew up with. I like more expressive brushwork paintings, but really appreciated artists like this and the talent they had (not to mention patience to complete such detailed paintings).
His depictions of light were awesome too. Wish I could see his works, and other works of other artists in person.

The verse you cite is in a paragraph which begins, “Watch out for false prophets." That defines the context. I am not aware that Hillary has claimed to be a prophet.
Meanwhile, in Romans 14 Paul cautions us:
Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters...Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand.
If I encounter Hillary in heaven, I will rejoice that Jesus has saved
another wretch like me.

Matthew 7: 21-23 might be appropriate though.

“might”.
Someone wisely said, “I’m not wondering much who I will be surprised to see in heaven. I’m more interested in who will be surprised to see me in heaven.”

Caravaggio is at the top. Look at just the simplest, most natural thing, say, the way Joseph's feet are resting in #7.
That is just the way someone would sit, isn't it?
Natural,
Realistic! & Relaxed...just remarkable to
...juxtapose that with the phantasmagorical idea of Joseph holding sheet music for an angel!
Caravaggio is like the richest wine to me -
...only to be taken in sips.

only to be taken in sips And I just gave you gallons. Don't drive for awhile, John.

Hello Dan, and grateful to see Caravaggio here. He’s certainly a favorite; such lighting with deep emotion.
Much enjoy the many comments; Thank You Dan!

Questions about his mental state arose from his erratic and bizarre behavior. I'd go nuts too if my boss made me paint the beheading of John the Baptist
