Dwindling congregation numbers would be boosted if the Church of England allowed same-sex weddings in its churches, Parliament has heard.
Labour former minister Ben Bradshaw urged the Church of England’s representative in Parliament to change its stance on same-sex marriage, amid falling numbers of people attending services.
Earlier this year the Church said it would bless same-sex civil marriages for the first time, but its position on gay marriage has not changed and same-sex couples are unable to marry in churches.
Exeter MP Mr Bradshaw told the Commons: “There might be more weddings in church were the Church of England to allow same-sex couples to get married in church.”
Reading from a report, the Labour MP added: “In that context, does he welcome the commission’s conclusion as I do that ‘a family does not necessitate a certain type of relationship or specific family form, but what matters is the depth of the connections and support that can be relied upon’?
“Is this not completely inconsistent with the Church’s continued rejection of families where the couple happens to be of the same sex and its refusal to solemnise their committed relationships?”

yep, that’s the goal. more butts in the pews.
Notice they don’t even consider the possibility that it will cause their numbers to fall even faster.
Gee....I wonder why? [/s]
yep, that’s the goal. more butts in the pews.
Having said that, what is the purpose of the church. Ask people around you, it will be revealing.
It’s all about the Benjamin’s.
The path to destruction is also popular, and well-trodden.
Why not accept people of other religions? After all, the bottom line.. ya know.
And non-denominational means they will take money from anyone.
I recall a few years ago reading an article that discussed how churches in parts of Europe were enjoying sudden increases in numbers because recent migrants (many from the Middle East) saw Christianity as a religion of freedom and an escape from what they lived under previously. Maybe the Church of England is not resonating in the same manner.
I thought the C of E was already there.
Same-sex marriage doesn’t create children. It won’t put butts in the pews.
“...what is the purpose of the church...”
It was Paul who said “The church is the means that God uses to make us more like our Savior.”
However, homosexuals are not using the forgiveness of sin that God provides, they are using it to take advantage of God’s love to forgive them of a sin to cleanse from the sin they intend to do over and over again. And that is blasphemy which is the unpardonable sin against the Holy Spirit. Blasphemy includes ridicule and attributing the works of the Holy Spirit to the devil.
So if the homosexuals are not using the church for it’s real purpose, and accomplishing the acceptance of a recognized in the Bible sin, and God won’t forgive it thus creating the worst of sins, then the only reasons the church is accepting homosexuals into the church is for head count and not for God. Another blasphemy now to include the church.

Listen to the answers.
Even if this worked I’d be against it
But this drives people away even faster.
Not much connection between Faith in the inerrant Word of God and most churches.
The typical church today is worldly and subscribes to the worldly wisdom of go along to get along.
Or you could just preach Christ and let the chips fall where they fall. But then you wouldn’t be Church of England.
I’m not sure when C of E stopped being Christian but it’s been several decades now. I can’t imagine there are any Christians left in that church.
Yep.
Can’t wait for John and Peter to be sitting in the front pew, cuddling their adopted twin boys, waiting for the preacher to baptize the whole “family”.
I look forward to attending that ceremony.
Not.
Well any church making that argument pretty much confirms that church isn’t about God but about money.
God money, I’ll do anything for you
God money, just tell me what you want me to
God money, nail me up against the wall
God money, don’t want everything he wants it all
“Church [of England] Urged to Allow Same Sex Marriage to Boost Falling Congregation Numbers”
Countries built architecturally magnificent churches all over the world and now that many people have turned their backs on Christianity some churches seem willing to let any one in no matter what their beliefs as long as they support them financially.
