Modern artists have no such talent.............................
Very few artists in any era matched Carl Bloch’s talent....................
The most famous Danish painter, Bloch has been one of my very favorites. He considered his religious work to be the most valuable contribution to the art world. His paintings are still today studied by young artists from all over the world. I just love The Sermon on the Mount.
After the ‘impressionists’, ‘cubists’, ‘surrealists’ and other ‘ists’ came into the art world it’s gone down hill like a lead sled. When they started excavating Pompeii the archaeologists found real art, pornographic in nature, to be sure, but it was real art...................
Count me in, too. I find his paintings to be absolutely riveting.
As always, the “eye of the beholder” hands out the trophies.
Amazing Grace!
The Good News depicted-—Dan!
Indeed. I like his work better than Rembrandt’s actually. He had a knack for posing his subjects in poses that elevated the scene efen further, such as the feeling of shame from the pose of peter when he denied christ, and you can see him thinking out his work, as in the raising of jarius daughter(if im reading the work right?), where christ stands outside the door talking to the relatives as the mother tends to the daughter inside, instead of showing Jesus inside the room healing, which I think lends a real sense of anticipation to the scene, rather than depicting just the healing, as great as that act was.
Indeed. I'm not including the Bible's text in this Featured Artists Series, so viewers must infer the Good News from the pictures.
Well said, Bob.
A picture is worth a Thousand words...
to Him who has Ears.
.
Thanks Dan
Bloch is my favorite biblical painter. So majestic. Christ is powerful yet at rest in his majesty.
I had a Bible that had prints of a lot of these Bloch paintings but, as this was back in the 60’s when hippies were always giving things away, I stupidly gave that wonderful Bible away.
Thank for posting. Think I’ll save this for later.
Glad this hit home for you, Jim.
Inasmuch as we know that God’s Word does not return void, we’ll just have to trust the Spirit that He directed that Bloch-Bible into the right hands.
Amazing use of space. The paintings contain a three dimensional world.
Much better than the recently posted cartoon scribblings of William Blake (sorry to his partisans).
Entirely different genres/approaches. It is possible to laud the one without denigrating the other.
You will have in excess of twenty more opportunities during the coming three weeks to perform more comparisons.
IIRC
the ‘impressionists’, ‘cubists’, ‘surrealists’ and other ‘ists’ were a hub of the 45 communist goals (The Naked Communist by W. Cleon Skousen)
the point was to make culture turn on itself
genius, skill and beauty were not encouraged
but vulgarity, violence and hate were praised
