. . . and I always thought of the Lipizzaners as an example of the "high horse" - until I actually rode one. They are very round and muscular, extremely powerful, with cresty necks and a typey head . . . but they are very small by our standards . . . under 16 hands and mostly just barely horse size (14.3 and up).
I was so lucky to have the chance to ride one. A lady here smuggled 8-10 of them out of Austria after the war. Brands and everything.
