The coins in 11 Jan Steen seem like you could reach into the painting a pluck them off the canvas. I wonder how many virtual coins I’ve held back from God and lied to him about it- food for thought I guess.
Good morning, Dan.
#10 Dore’
#13 Kharlamov
#16 Berge’ nice terracotta relief
#25 Poussin
When I am confessing my latest sin(s) to God, it helps me to realize that none of this is news to God. He already knows me inside and out.
Hi, Alba! Happy Day-365-in-our-countdown-to-next-Easter.
Sounds like a “10% for the big guy” sort of deal ...
Always seemed rather harsh.
Am I wrong?
Probably.
I've learned to just trust (that God is doing things justly, correctly) when I don't understand, or things seem "harsh".
It's like that iconic photo of the Vietnamese guy getting shot in the head - the photo the left used to gin up opposition to the war...
...turns out, he had just led a massacre of a village, slaughtering women and children.
It is harsh. So the question becomes, how does this harshness comport with God’s revealed attributes?
I suggest answers on several levels:
Superficial: everyone dies anyway
Penal: they deserved punishment
Sacrificial: they were made an example
Traditional: their fate emulated OT executions
After my post I reflected that God looks
On The Heart.
King David messed up but repented then
Solomon really fell-——
Thanks Dan.
Am I Wrong?
.
Ain’t the first time
Just ask my Ex-wife!
Ha!
Hello Dan, and hope everyone had a nice Easter.
Many fine paintings and reliefs here!
RE: the death of the couple; yes, God’s ways are far beyond our understanding. Trusting Him thru a terrible event is difficult; can we do it?
Thank You Dan!
In this case it was not the fact that they gave only part of the money, that, as Peter pointed out to them was their own business. It was that they were treating God like a god. In pagan myth it was quite possible for humans to trick the gods. The gods could be deceived and outwitted. God is quite a different matter. He knows everything, sees everything and all the rest.
You do not treat God with rank disrespect.
Which they were doing. And they were doing it so they would be seen as "good" (for a certain value of "good") people.
It was a very self centered and ego driven desire and to achieve it they tried to treat God as if He was not Omnipotent.
The way it is worded it is not totally clear if God struck them down or just let them see exactly what they were going and that stopped their hearts.
I'm not troubled by His treatment of the dead couple, as I indicated. It's when it gets up-close and personal that I find the real challenge is joined.
“when it gets up-close and personal that I find the real challenge is joined.”

Not so hard when it’s someone else... but when it’s me, then it’s a struggle-
there truly is a wide range of styles in the gallery today
very nice collection
thank you for hosting
