Celibacy was made a requirement in the Catholic Church around the 11th century False. It was the expectation in the West from about the 3rd Century on.
Jewish priests did not have marital relations during the time they served the Temple. Orthodox priests -- married ones -- to this day do not have marital relations the day before they offer the Divine Liturgy.
In the West, the custom of daily Divine Liturgy (Mass) became established early on. The obvious inference can be drawn ...

Priests are so Old Testament. In the Old Covenant, the faithful had to approach God through the priests.
The priests were mediators between the people and God. The priests offered sacrifices to God on behalf of the people. That is no longer necessary. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, we can now approach God’s throne with boldness (Hebrews 4:16).
The temple veil tearing in two at Jesus’ death was symbolic of the dividing wall between God and humanity being destroyed. We can approach God directly, ourselves, without the use of a human mediator.
Jesus Christ is our great High Priest (Hebrews 4:14-15; 10:21) and the only mediator between us and God (1 Timothy 2:5). The New Testament teaches that there are to be elders (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9), deacons (1 Timothy 3:8-13), and pastors (Ephesians 4:11) – but not priests.
Another meaningless Catholic "tradition".

I could never understand why the Catholic church prohibited priests from getting married.
Throughout the bible there are many passages praising and encouraging marriage and having children.
While I don't subscribe to any religion, I always took the time to stop and listen to Fr. Jonathan Morris when he was religious contributor on FOX news. I found him very inspiring and down to earth and I was saddened to see him have to make a clearly difficult decision to either remain a priest or leave the church and follow his heart and get married and have a family.
It just doesn't make any sense......
