AT JESUS' TOMB |
Why is Peter almost always depicted as an old man?
We know he was married, but that just means he was over about 30. Some believe the other apostles were late teens or early twenties, so Peter would have been older than they were, but not as old as the artists seem to paint..........
We’ve discussed this previously. Personally, I think Peter was as much older than the other apostles as Arthur Fonzarelli was older than Richard Cunningham.
Peter was older for sure, but I think he was closer than the artists portray. He was still impetuous and quick tempered, like a man in his mid to late 30’s. He supposedly travelled all over the Levant and then to Rome, establishing churches wherever he went, hard work for a young man much less an elder......................
Good point. I like arguments supported by facts. Fantasies about how much older the Fonz was than Richie are sophomoric.
Trivia:
Henry Winkler couldn’t ride a motorcycle.
The very few scenes he was in where he rode one were filmed in slo-mo and sped up for TV.............
I was afraid you’d say Laverne stood in for him..................................
They only scenes I can remember where he was shown ‘riding’ a motorcycle, a late 40’s era Triumph, was when he was with Pinky Tuscadero, a female version of the Fonz, and another scene where he was coming to a short stop in front of the other guys standing around talking.
The first motorcycle he was shown with was a late 40’s Harley.
Otherwise, he was shown just sitting on the motorcycle............
But could Peter ride? And why wasn’t the bicycle invented far sooner?
You both are ‘jumping the Shark!’

The Lord is Risen!
Guilty as charged.
Good Morning Dan, and greetings to all visitors and contributors to the gallery.
An epic moment indeed:
#3 West
#5, #6 & #7 Burnand (love the style and emotion)
#23 Tanner
Great choices Dan; thank you.
Re Burnand’s: Can any present-day believer even begin to imagine the turmoil Peter and John were experiencing? They didn’t even have the Comforter yet.
#3 - about the only one depicting it still being dark, before dawn.
Of course, not being able to see much isn’t very conducive to effective visual communication.
Details, details. I've seen some artists whose depictions of the dead of night are far preferable to--well, I'll leave it at that.
The Burnand is a long-time favorite of mine, and the two Tanners are wonderful.
You are the most fervent Tanner fan I have encountered.

Amen Dan and good point; they must have been nearly overwhelmed.
We consider people who are ‘religious’ (but unsaved) - we all know some; they don’t comprehend, what they don’t have. I mean: How do they think about ‘being filled with the Spirit’ or being ‘born again’ ?
