FROM THE DEAD! |
Yes, I was well aware of that and could have made the editorial decision to omit them. But I did not receive an urging from the Holy Spirit to do so. He may have some use in mind for them for one or more viewers.
Good Morning, Dan. :-)
Mary-Lou! Monday-morning-guess-Who-cannot-be-kept-in-the-grave-greetings to you!
An inspiring collection. Thanks!
Hi.
What were Jesus’s first words when he emerged from the tomb?
Tah Dah!
5.56mm
Thank you, Dan.
My pleasure. Always so glad when the Lord inspires.
Blake, dear Mr. Blake, has his own wonderful lens through which to view the Resurrection (like everything else). An odd bird but a wonderful artist. And poet.
Rubens as usual completely over the top . . . Van Dyck and Veronese not far behind . . .
LOL!
Yesterday, as I was preparing the threads on Jesus’ ascension, I mused what He might have felt as He went soaring into the air. Satan had taken Him on a couple of bizarre escapades at the end of His wilderness temptation, but such an elevation through the atmosphere and clouds was both novel and exhilarating.
My pleasure, dear Alba. Hope you are well.
That’s why I like #62 !
A couple of us wondered one time what Blake must have been thinking and came away shaken.
How does one depict something as this?
.
# 62 reminds me of
The Garden Tomb in Jerusalem.
"He died ... in a most glorious manner. He said He was going to that Country he had all His life wished to see & expressed Himself Happy, hoping for Salvation through Jesus Christ – Just before he died His Countenance became fair. His eyes Brighten'd and he burst out Singing of the things he saw in Heaven."
He was clearly on some level out of touch with reality - but isn't that what Art is really about?
We sing his poem "The Lamb" to a setting by John Tavener. There is no question to me that he Got It.
As someone mentioned yesterday, the scene as depicted in the film Risen matches my mental image.
We had an older pastor who by that time had been present at the bedsides of hundreds of people who were about to die. He considered it his favorite part of his ministry. Those who were unsaved often uttered vile imprecations against God, literally and verbally shaking their fists at Him. Those who were saved often said, “He’s calling me—I must go now.”
Good Morning Dan, and greetings to all.
So many good choices, among them:
#48 Pilon
#62 (artist unknown)
#68 Carracci
#75 Van Dyck
Thank you Dan. Good to see several ‘new visitors’ here.
