Yes. The very elaborate altarpiece was commissioned for the Monastery of St. Antony, patron against St. Antony’s Fire (ergotism). They cared for individuals with plague, ergotism, and other skin diseases. Christ was portrayed covered with plague-sores in sympathy with the guests of the monastery.

That’s the first I’ve heard of portraying Jesus mimicking illness in sympathy with the ill. While I understand the motive, I’m very uncomfortable with the practice.
