Preach it!
OTOH, Aramaic and Hebrew are different languages. One obvious visual difference is that Hebrew words ending with the letter hei often end with an alef in their Aramaic equivalents.
If "Golgotha" came from a place-name ending with an alef, that might be why the NIV translates as "Aramaic."
I wouldn't know one way or the other without tracking that down [if the info is out there]; just thought I'd point it out.

John 14
5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Truth is crucified at the place of the poll...
Golgotha
of Aramaic origin, cf.
H1538 gulgoleth {gul-go'-leth}
by reduplication from 01556; TWOT - 353l; n f
AV - poll 7, scull 2, every man 2, head 1;head, poll, skull
1a) skull
1b) head, poll (of census)
Which is interesting because the same Strong's number 1538 in Greek is:
G1538 hekastos {hek'-as-tos}
as if a superlative of hekas (afar);; adj
AV - every man 39, every one 20, every 17, misc 7; 83
1) each, every
cf. half shekel Temple tax (for the upkeep of the Sanctuary, a gift, for the atonement of souls):
Exodus 38:26 A bekah for every man [1538], that is, half a shekel, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for every one that went to be numbered, from twenty years old and upward, for six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty men.
In the place of every man, for the atonement of souls.
So, as we say in American, "counting heads".
In the place of every man, for the atonement of souls.
Afraid I might be a bit delinquent on my bekah payments. So, it's a good thing that
Jesus paid it all
All to Him I owe
Sin had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow
For some odd reason the male symbol (every man) is the one for Mars, which is a circle with an arrow pointing the way up and out.
It's just a plain observation on the shape of the thing, in comparison.
In any case, seems unrelated to the present but I'll present it anyway, re the taxes -- whose image and superscription:
Mark 1214 And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
15 Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it.
16 And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar's.
17 And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him.
And I continue marveling at Him, and I have every intention of doing so-—say it with me now—f o r e v e r.
not a bad one in the bunch
every artist gave the subject the respect it deserves
Is it my imagination, or are Tissot’s pieces more vivid and intense in this chapter?
Is he becoming less narrative and more expressive?
yes!
the New Testament is the Old Testament fulfilled
savor them both
Michelangelo
one of my favorite movies is Ben-Hur (William Wyler’s 1940s version)
the hand of God reaching down to touch man
I don’t know—can’t judge it adequately—but what I do know is that the events surrounding the crucifixion fully engaged him. He detailed every step of the journey from the Last Supper through the Ascension, so that level of enthusiasm is evident in the expressiveness we see.
I have the very print displayed showing just the hands,
God reaching,straining to Adam and
Adam nonchalantly,lazily at ease.
.
Dan’s photos are Amazing ...
Thanks for Posting “the Good Theif”
