God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
Numbers 23:19
The Hebrew word “ish”, translated “man” in the first part of that verse, refers to a male human, but the matter is the nature of mortal humankind (women lie also). The second instance, it’s translated from Hebrew “adam”.
In 2 Samuel 7:14, “I will be his father, and he shall be my son”, the Hebrew word “ab” definitely and unambiguously means “father”.
And while I can see some folks keeping gender out of it for spiritual reasons, most people are probably doing it to be “woke”. My former denomination started having more literature out calling God a female! (To balance against the historical patriarchy or something.)
All that said, I'll stick with the male terminology. If it was good enough for Jesus, it is good enough for me.
