Interesting that Herod would dine while in the presence of a severed head.
Good series!

Happy New Year Dan! Happy New Year to all who trust our God of grace.
A difficult topic, but beautiful art talent on display;
#52 Rubens (Herodias gloats)
#59 Delaroche (light, mood, color)
#69 Levy (Herod’s body language says much)
Thank You Dan. May we all be joyful for a new year, filled with many possibilities =:^)

Disturbing before breakfast!
All are great paintings. #38, Caravaggio; the intricate wood carving at #40; Bernardino Luini at #43.
#48 by the 19th c. Dutch artistJ. A. Kruseman. He was as well known for his portraits as for his biblical scenes. The eyes of Salome reveal her hatred, her lack of compassion, empty eyes. Like mother, like daughter.
Loving 15th c. Spanish artists, my favorite is #63 by De Benavarres, beautiful and highly detailed.
#66, remarkable mosaic.

Good Afternoon, Dan, and Happy New Year! A gruesome array indeed. I favor No. 46, the Hans Unger, for encapsulating the wickedness of Salome.

A reminder our world is full of Solomes who would have their way with Christians if they could get away with it
