Peter, Andrew, James, John |
After the crucifixion, and Judas suicide, the Apostles chose Mattias, to replace him so as to keep their number at 12.
But I have always thought of Paul as being the true next Apostle, since Jesus chose him as well....................
They believed God had made that choice
"Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias;
so he was added to the eleven apostles."
Acts 1:26
#2 Ankh on Peter’s sleeve.
Scallop Shells: #13, #19, #20, #23, #24...............
A roll of the dice...................
Thank ya, Dan!
(No. 18, hands down!)
Good morning, Claire.
A fine choice, if not an inevitable one.
Good Morning, Dan. :-)
Good Morning Dan, and good day to all.
So many ‘favorites’ from which to choose:
#6 Van Poucke (sculpture)
The ‘glass’ are wonderful, each of them.
#13 Duquesnoy (sculpture)
#17 and #25 Rubens
#27 Wautier, inspired indeed!
Thank You Dan, for taking the time to assemble these, and present them to us =:^)
Rubens (#1-9-17-25) portraits of the Apostles are remarkable. I especially love his John the Evangelist and Peter.
Juan de Juanes, #20, was the foremost artist of Spanish Renaissance. His work was influenced by Raphael.
Beautiful mosaic at #15 and of course the stained glass windows.
The deeply devoted El Greco, is always very recognizable with his elongated figures and vivid colors.
Eight more Apostles remaining, hence two more days like this.
Rubens’ Apostle portraits endear him to me.
“Eight more Apostles remaining, hence two more days like this.”
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Dan, this topic is much admired.
And then, one more day: The Four Evangelists.
