When I first visited (2004), a Pearl Harbor vet gave the narrative ahead of the ferry ride, which had been the tradition.
A few of them were around the grounds, speaking with visitors -- whoever wished to chat with them, ask questions, or just shake their hands. They were a living link to that day.
Then on a second visit a few years later, they were... all gone. A young woman (active duty) provided the narration. Those vets were but a memory in the video presentation.
The sharp contrast stuck in my memory more than the monument itself, to this day.
